That's exactly my concern, it has nothing to do with my appreciation for Mr Mansell.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the only one I can fully recommend, even at its original $10 price point. Its the second best DLC I've ever played, behind Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2. Your enjoyment of it, however, will probably depend on A) how much you like Liara, and B) how much you hate mining.
Kasumi is just a character pack, roughly equivalent to Zaeed (though she's one hell of a character to bring to the fight). I'm glad I got her on sale.
The end of Overlord is kind of trippy, but there's really nothing else in there too new or worthwhile.

Personally, I liked the Mako better. The Mako.
Neither the Hammerhead or the Mako were entierly successfully IMO.
The Mako was just fine on the linear levels like Illos, Noveria, Feros and...um...that one with Liara. By which I mean it was fine until it had to actually perform it's function and overcome obstacles. At which point it handles like a shopping trolly in and ice rink and opps, you're at the bottom of a deep crevasse and it's take you another 10 minutes to inch your way back up the near vertical walls. On top of that the combat was almost ridiculously easy as almost nothing could take it down so long as you kept your distance and you could blow away most enemies with just one shot.
Now the Hammerhead on the other hand was worse than useless. It couldn't go more than ten meters without clanging off a boulder and bringing you to an abrupt halt. If that wasn't bad enough the thing is USELESS in a fight, seemingly bursting into flames and exploding if an enemy so much as looks at it funny.
Whatever (if anything) the come up with for ME3 in the way of a vehicle, my preference would be to have a hybrid design. Maybe something like the hovercraft & spaceship combo from Beyond Good and Evil. That is a small Mako-like ground vehicle that can dock with a larger craft that can pick it up and take it over major obstacles. That or have one vehicle similar to the Hammerhead but with a alternate "flight-mode" so you can take off on your own.

I forgot Firewalker was available for free. Actually, I don't think I ever realized that. I have the PS3 version of ME2, so... yeah.
I prefer the Hammerhead but I never hated the Mako, either. BioWare basically took the plethora of people who hated the Mako and said, 'alright, try this thing out and let us know what you think; we'll make a vehicle in ME3 based on reactions.'

The Hammerhead has more abilities and speed, so I like it more, but it is waaaaaaaay too weak. Reverend is correct, a few shots from a Geth Trooper and you've got alarms going off and fires are soon to come. I hope they keep the Hammerhead for ME3, but make it a much tougher, so it doesn't blow up so easily.

Also, I'd like to be able for the crew to be able to gt out of the ride at more than just specifically designated locations.

Or you could have the Mako and the Hammerhead, and pick the one you want at the beginning of every mission.
Nah, too complicated. You certainly don't want to confront the player with choices and variability. I mean, in Mass Effect 3, they're even going to streamline the dialogue experience. Fewer conversations, most trees will only have one "branch", and even when there are choices, it'll just be "Jesus" and "Satan", both leading to the same outcome.
Where did that come from?
In ME2, you constantly have to pick two teammates among your twelve travelling companions. It's all about choices.
It's a tactical choice, just like picking the Mako or the Hammerhead would be.
Picking squadmates whose skills complement your own isn't really tactics so much as common sense.
And they'd never include both the Mako and the Hammerhead. They'd have to design their planet-based levels to fit both, which would cost more money than it would be worth. Easier to just design your levels for one specific vehicle, be it the Mako (unlikely), Hammerhead (possible), or a new vehicle (also possible).

I have a feeling it will wind up being a much more durable and slightly less fast-paced variation of the Hammerhead with a brand new name.
But your class powers aren't the only factor in choosing squadmates, for me at least anyway. I also take into account what kind of opposition I'm liable to run into. So it there are going to be Geth or mechs then it's probably going to be Tali for her AI hack and either Garrus or Miranda for overload. On higher difficulty levels it becomes very important as all enemies tend to have either shields or armour, even husks!
As for choosing between a ground or hover vehicle as part of the pre-mission party & weapon load-out, it really wouldn't be helpful unless you know ahead of time what kind of terrain or opposition you're up against. A more practical solution would be for them to come up with a new hybrid vehicle.
Still, as I see it the Hammerhead still didn't fix the main problem I had with the Mako; it's ability to handle rough terrain. Sure it can hop over large obstructions (a very tedious exercise I might add) but put it on some of those self same open terrains from ME1 and it'd have just as much trouble as the Mako.
The solution is either stick to the linear/multi-pathed terrain designs like they did for Overlord or come up with a tank that can fly. Given the game breaking nature of the latter option, I think the former is the more likely choice.
