Well, Olson was a bit gleeful at the prospect of getting to "kick some Romulan arse," but that ended up not working out so well for him. As for killing seen throughout the rest of the movie, though, that all seemed to me to be pretty grim and businesslike.Not just simply the action, but the glorification of violence is what bothered me. There was a lot of killing with a kind of glee by the "heroes" that I found contrary to what (to me at least) Star Trek is and should be about. Contrast it with SFS where Kirk keeps trying to save Kruge's life up until the point that the Klingon's intransgience gets to be more than Kirk can stand (amusing side note, "Time to boot stomp this Klingon" has become the short hand reference between my wife and I when one of us has tried to be nice to someone who just keeps being a dick).
Well, Kirk does extend his hand to Nero at the end and gets it swatted away. I didn't get any sense of glee from the characters from killing anyone, though.
