What old games would you like to see "reinvented"?

Planescape: Torment

Because it's the only game that ever evoked an emotional response from me (aside from cursing), because I'd love to play it on a big screen TV and because I don't think I can keep the only computer it will run on alive for much longer.

You can always get the version on GOG, which is made to work on more modern machines, including XP, Vista and 7.

I have no problem running the CD version of Planescape on XP. With the high res mod and unofficial patches, it's a great experience.

I'd certainly love to see a remake or new version of Wing Commander - space sims and FMV games just dropped away after the late 90s unfortunately.

I'd love to see Bioware make a remake of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. That would just be better than sex.

Goldeneye got remade for the Wii recently. Great game. They didn't just remake it the same as the original, but reimagined it using technology available today to make an even more compelling game.

And as far as the Trek games, there was a thread I started awhile back where I wished that the games would be re-released or new games by Telltale, which use the episodic format, which are perfect for Trek games themselves considering 25th Anniversary and JR were episodic in nature.

Star Trek adventure style by Telltale is an interesting idea. My concerns there are that their engine could use a rebuild, and for the love of god make it a point and click interface on PC. Also they would need someone good to write the things, I don't think their standard comedy bit works for Trek.

Well, they do have some serious stuff, such as Back to the Future and the Jurassic Park games. The Jurassic Park games aren't out yet, but they're coming.

Since we're dreaming, I'd love to see some of the better "gold box" AD&D games remade, in 2D, with high rez graphics and good sound.

And was there ever an accurate port of Gauntlet? I don't think so.

^ The Dreamcast had a fairly accurate port of Gauntlet Legends...

More votes: The ST Borg and Klingon games.

Also another vote for Klingon Honor Guard (but with Martok in place of Gowron, of course).

They already did have that implemented though, but it never changed anything. People still died after forgetting to save. Oh, I suppose they could autosave it before a critical death.

Oh and btw:

They have yet to make a Star Trek game that does Star Trek better than Star Flight. It has exploration, diplomacy, combat, mining and more worlds to explore than you can shake a stick at. And a story as well, one you have to figure out. The music was friggin awesome in this game and it's electronic sounds really made you feel as if you were out in the lonesome void of space. Fuck all that symphonic bullshit you get nowadays. I'd be happy if this game stuck with it's 2D roots, but had the kind of graphic quality that "Weird Worlds Of Infinite Space" had.

I know this is more suited to Trek Gaming, but I'd love to see a single-player Trek RPG that would let you beam down to planet surfaces , let you travel almost anywhere, with a certain scope similar to Fallout 3. More freeform, less like KOTOR. Would love to see the game world change based on the choices you make such as alliances you can make, with an AI that can make decisions on their own, similar but more advanced to Oblivion's Radiant AI.

Mass Effect + Oblivion = win.

A bit off topic but so long as we're talking about games we'd like to see too; I've often thought that it'd be fun if someone were to do a sandbox/RPG Judge Dredd game along the lines of GTA...with a little Fallout 3 thrown in.

That have been a few Dredd games already but none of them really did the IP justice (though Dredd Vs. Death came close.) The way I picture it, rather than playing as Dredd the player character would be rookie Judge fresh out of the academy (gender, appearance, background etc. customisable ala Mass Effect.) The early story building and tutorial levels would be a series of flash forwards from childhood though Judge training (like Fallout 3) before going on a final assessment with Dredd himself and then assigned a sector house and let loose! :D

[/thread derailment]

I would like to see a new version of Galaga.

No remake of Galaga has ever been able to capture the magic of that game. Galaga 3, Galaga 88, Galaga Legions, Galaga Destination Earth and so on.

There's certain games where there was something about those awesome graphics and sounds of old arcade games that are hard to beat. Galaga, Asteroids, Robotron, Defender come to mind as games where its hard to put a bow on it though in Robotron's case there have been some good dual-stick shooters.

Several people have called for Wing Commander, and several people have called for an MMORPG Privateer. I will go further - I want an MMORPG Wing Commander universe game in which you can fly as a TC, Kilrathi, or Retro pilot, be a privateer, run a base, so on and so forth.

I'd also like to see an online and updated version of an awesome old EA game called Mail Order Monsters.

I'll second the suggestions for new/updated Sierra adventure games, if Sierra can remember how to make one without requiring 20 patches and it still bombing out. ;)
In terms of "re-invented".....one thing that I would kill to see, is a new Zork game done Oblivion style. Zork, as well as it's spin off series, Enchanter, were set in the world of Quendor. Quendor was the first world in computer gaming, to be fleshed out with a backstory and history. Only the Ultima games could offer anything comparable in this sense.
As I sit here in my Frobozzco/Infocom t-shirt (custom-made by zazzle.com), I would like to say that I love your ideas, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. :techman:
Ironically, Fallout 3 has captured the feel of the original Zork games better than the graphic Zork games...Like the original Zork, it takes place in a world after the fall of a great empire...it has elements of humour, but those elements primarily exist in the documents and relics you find than in the present. The latter Zork games had bad attempts at Monty Python style humour and it just didn't feel right.
The humour was too obvious and in your face, instead of the sparse, wry and dry humour of the early text games.

Everytime I walk into a cave in Fallout 3 and see how awesome the Great Underground Empire could look, I want to kick Activision in the collective balls for shelving PC gaming's first Classic Series.
You have sold me on playing Fallout 3 as soon as I can. Do I need to play Fallouts 1 and 2 to grok it?

In return, allow me to suggest Portal, if you haven't played it yet. There is something very Infocom-ish about the sense of humor in that game.

Star Trek Bridge Commander with the Kinect voice software. Also I would love a Freelancer re-make with the ability to use voice controls as well as standard ones.

Heart fo Darkness would be a great re-make too especially for PSN/Live.
