Plinkett gets REVENGE

How about (Pretentious) Days of Summer? I'd love to hear him tear that one a new one. Just watched it, and that last line? The new girl's name? I was all,

ARE YOU F** KIDDING ME?!
What's the problem with that. It was a great movie. The name thing was just a way of showing that you'll find someone new and it'll start all over again, no matter how important you think the girl is that just broke up with you. Just like the seasons change. The girl at the end was "Autumn"; there'll be a "Winter" after that. If you thought the name wasn't very realistic...well, that's not really what it was about.
I don't care that it wasn't realistic. 27 Dresses was just as loopy, but it was much funnier, and had an appealing heroine. The problem with the "Autumn" finale was that it was about as subtle as a baseball bat to the brain, and only marginally cuter.

The only thing that ever bothered me about ROTJ was too much Ewoks. Other than that, it's a great movie. I never got the hate.
I'll take the Ewoks over Jar-Jar any day. They may have been cute, but at least they weren't annoying.

I like Jedi for all the reasons mentioned here and davejames observation
I
can definitely understand that complaint, but between the cool, half-built design and it's awesome use during the final battle (with it blowing up rebel ships left and right, and all it's crazy tunnels at the end), I thought Lucas somehow made the idea work
is particularly apt, and very true. I also find the Ewoks kind of endearing, livening up the battle at the end with necessary levity.

I guess the biggest problem I had is its general feel. The galaxy seemed bigger, more complex, with more room for tension, drama and story during Empire. It just didn't seem to take in the breadth and scope that it could have after that film.

How about Anakin discovering the black armor in some ancient Sith temple that is forbidden to all Jedi?

So then he's got some spiffy new black armor. Great. If you're playing a video game, that is. What happened to the fall to the dark side as described by the OT, and the longstanding origin of the armor in a battle with Obi-Wan? Under the bus.

Yeah, and I think the biggest motive for the fall can't be political or psychological. It has to be something mystical and beyond normal mortal mentality.

Then it would apply to each Jedi equally, and wouldn't ultimately be consistent with the accountability-based reality in which some Jedi fall but others do not.

Soooo....

What do you guys think Plinkett will review next??

Indiana Jones IV???

The last airbender???

Black Monster Dicks 2???

I'd be surprised if he did Indy 4. For one, once you take the fanboy element out, the issues that Indy 4 has are, generally, the same issues that can be leveled at the other Indy flicks. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the RLM team is burnt out on Lucas for the moment and save an Indy 4 review for another time.

Personally, if they are to do future reviews, I'd like to see them take on something like The Dark Knight or Inception. I realize those are well-received movies, but it would bring more attention RLM (like the Episode I review did), and the reviews don't have to be negative reviews (like his Avatar and Star Trek (2009) review).

I actually wouldn't mind another review of a movie he liked (ST09) or at least didn't hate (Avatar).

There really is plenty of fodder with Indy 4, though - and they are issues that make it considerably worse than the other 3 (except maybe Temple which was a mess, too). That said, I think a lot of the problems with Indy 4 were covered by the prequel reviews so it may be covering a lot of the same ground if it were to hit that next.

He may also just be sick of reviewing and call it. BTW, have you seen the new T-Shirt on his site? Fan-fucking-tastic.

His typical complaints about the prequels settled on the direction (or lack thereof) of the films. You can nitpick the plot of Indy 4, but at least the direction of the film had energy, was sound, and was visually interesting.

But, I suppose this discussion is all academic until when and if RLM does an Indy 4 review.

However, I would find it wildly amusing if RLM actually liked Indy 4. The internet would likely shit a brick.

lol - I would find it unlikely that that would be the case, but yeah, that would be a hell of a thing.

I think the direction of Indy 4 was more sound, but still had some serious issues but the plot deserves some thoughtful deconstruction and a thorough thrashing and not just from a nitpicky perspective either. But, as you said, academic unless he actually does the film.

One thing that I really like about RLM's Star Wars reviews is that he is very objective in them. Sure, he goes on and rips on the various elements of the films to humorous extents, but he also generally gives credit where credit is due.

The prime example I can currently think of is on his comments on Hayden Christensen's acting. It could be an easy shot to rip on him, but RLM fairly points out that he is really a decent actor, but one that needs strong direction (which he wasn't receiving).

I agree - I think it's clear no actor was receiving good direction. Hell, look at Natalie Portman's wooden ass performance in the prequels and her amazing performance in Black Swan. Doesn't take a genius to see there's a ton of talent that was just wasted there.

Or Samuel L. Jackson. A guy that's consistently portrayed as being 'larger than life' in either his serious, comedic, or downright zany roles... is somehow turned into cardboard for the only time in his acting career, something apparently only the talents of Lucas and a green-screen film studio could pull off.
