What inspired your non-Star Trek username / nickname?

12 years ago I had to pick an IRC nick. I thought teacake sounded quite fetching and also amused me because at the time I was a bit of a net troll so I liked the contrast. I've used it online ever since and it's really a second name to me now. If someone called it out in the street I would turn around, lol.

I enjoy imagining Teacake from Their Eyes Were Watching God posting on a Star Trek message board.

Every now and then someone asks me if my name is from that.

'Satyr' is a nickname I got during my college years.
You had knock-kneed goat legs in college?:nyah:
As for the number... "The Number 7 has for ages been regarded as the Number of mystery relating to the spiritual side of things." But it also has much mathematical significance.
Wow, I'm jealous. I wish I had made up a cool sounding reason for the 7 in my username now. Seriously, I like what you wrote.:techman:

Originally before I registered here, I called myself ParraTrek, as I support the Parramatta Eels in the NRL, but when I registered here, I became ElimParra. I love Garak as a character, plus when I registered, it was the off season and I was thinking the upcoming season and how the Eels would go. It wasn't a good season, after making it to the grand final in 2001.

Would Garak like rugby? I'm sure he would have some little comments about all the sweat and smashing into each other..

I seem to recall an avatar image ElimParra has worn before...

^ There has been a few of them. vedek loki created the first one, and I've done a few since then. Sometime next month, I'll probably do a new one, with the upcoming season due to start soon.

He probably would. Doubtful if Garak would like any human sport. Really never thought about it.

My nickname. Altered to look vaguely sci-fi / spelt phonetically / whatever reason I give as to why it's 'Eyes' and not 'Iz'.

So... wait, is your username supposed to be pronounced like "is," then? Or "ayes?"

It's pronounced just like the word 'Eyes'. I only put in that last bit to confirm my nickname isn't actually 'Eyes'. It's 'Iz', but that's only the spelling, it's still pronounced the same.

I always say that if I wanted my nickname to be pronounced 'is', I would have spelt it 'Is'.

I can vouch for that since my name starts with Iz and is pronounced eyes.

Thank you for all of the responses! I am looking forward to seeing more people step up. It is really interesting to hear the inspirations.

Years and years ago, when I first played Zelda 64 in 1998 (I was 14 years old) I wrote the name "Daniel" -- and then randomly erased the "iel" in favor of "oz" because, at the time, I thought it sounded cool or medieval or something. The first online forum I ever used was Vimm.net's emulation message board, and I found myself using the same handle. Twelve years later I am still using "Danoz" for virtually any activity that calls for a nickname.

Actually no, though that's cool too. The game was Starship Troopers: Battlespace which was a short-lived late 90s online game where you flew around as either Federation or Bug ships blowing each other up. The Kestrel was the smallest and fastest Fed ship.

Ah. I didn't know there was a Starship Trooper's online game! Learn something new every day. :D

Síor is an RL nickname. It means "always" or "continually", and apparently it's a word I overuse. X is just a metavariable.

It's pronounced "Sheer-Ex", by the way.

Walking in when someone was saying unpleasent things about me.

"--king Daniel!"

Nice. ;)

I always love sports-related explanations for names, because they leave me no more enlightened than when I began.

Mine's just one I pulled out of the air, I don't use it anywhere else. I like to keep my "proper" nick separate from my guilty pleasure of watching Trek :)

Well, it only lasted for about a year, but it was fun especially when I was 13! Hosted at the same place as Multiplayer Battletech and AirWarrior back then.
