Wonder Woman TV Series Shelved

Casting the right actress to play Wonder Woman is going to be tough. It'll be an uphill climb if they screw that up.

I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye on this. I'll admit I don't know much at all about Wonder Woman, but it'll certainly be interesting to see what Kelley does.

I find the article ambiguous, but it seems to be saying that WW has only been picked up as a pilot so far, not as an actual series. So it's a step forward, but I don't think it's certain yet that the show will actually reach the airwaves.

And I'm still not at all sure I want it to. In theory I'd love to see a Wonder Woman show, but I just don't think Kelley is the right person for it.

I'm also not crazy about the description of the premise:
The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.

So it's pretty revisionist... and it seems pretty much in keeping with Kelley's usual kind of show, which is what worries me. Plus he's basically turning Diana Prince into Bruce Wayne here, or maybe Tony Stark. Is that really true to who Wonder Woman is? True, part of the problem with Wonder Woman is that there's never been a single, clear, universally accepted definition of who and what she is; she's many things to many people, and that makes her a tough character to get a handle on. But this approach seems to draw too much from other things and not enough from WW's own mythos and heritage. Although I'll grant that one can't really judge much from one sentence.

I enjoy being ridiculous, I know I'm, being ridiculous but every day.

Do you like it when people call you a liar?

Does it feel good? Especially when they have no proof and they're wrong?

Since I think that it only needs to be touching skin, that lasso could lead to all sorts of hard to explain situations as when it's attached to her side, it's often touching her leg.

So she could be having a conversation with Green Lantern about something and he might say "so what are you thinking?" and before she knows it she blurts out "how much I want to give you a good pegging with a strap-on".

Then everyone is upset and it gets sort of awkward when fighting Darkseid or the like.

Yes just the pilot has been picked up folks as Christopher indicated. It doesn't say they're even greenlighting it or making a series. As for the modernization of Diana, that was probably to be expected given that it was Kelly and that it is going to be a television series not a film. Unfortunately it does kind of sound like "Ally McBeal" crossed with a crime drama. However that doesn't mean they can't generate any good stories from this premise. The trick is going to be in who they cast as Diana along with supporting cast members. My pick is still Bridget Regan, she carried one series and with the right support and writing I think she could do it again.

Incorrect. The Lasso of Truth only compels those who are bound by it.

Which is logical, since magic is more about the mental and the symbolic than the physical. A rope binding you has power over you in a way that a rope merely touching you does not.

The description seems to fit how Power Girl is handled in the comics. Balancing her career as a super hero with being CEO of her firm Starrware.

The description using the word vigilante instead of hero leads me to believe her assistance isn't particularly welcome by the police. Of course that's just my opinion based on word choice.

And perhaps being a vigilante will lend itself more towards using the costume currently in use in the comic instead of her traditional garb.

^ I didn't think about that but it does describe Karen to a tee actually. I've been enjoying her solo series right now.

So after NBC cancels The Cape, they'll announce Summer Glau as Wonder Woman and David Lyons as Steve Trevor? :)

To me, it sounds like the Emma Peel-esque 70s version of Wonder Woman, where she was depowered and turned into a secret agent. It's not where the character is today, true, but it's certainly true to what Wonder Woman has been.

NBC will probaly cast Michlle Ryan ;)
I would be perfectly okay with that. :)

I'm still betting they're going to use the Jim Lee redesigned costume that she has for JMS's run right now. Yeah as Allyn points out the description does remind one of the "Diana Prince" era Wonder Woman. I used to love that white outfit.

but JMS is being kicked off Superman and Wonder Woman I heard, not that he had much to do with the redesign. So they can get rid of the body or pick over the bones.

What's the point of using a globally recognizable figure if you're going to disguise her to a chorus of WTFing?
