The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

If a movie is going to have a title sequence, it needs to be interesting and actually introduce the story. I absolutely despise James Bond opening sequences because it's just 3-4 minutes of random visuals that serve no purpose. As much as I liked "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," the title sequence is annoying. I don't want to watch 3 minutes of people's names.

Whatever you think of the movie, I have to say that I really enjoyed "Star Trek: Insurrection's" title sequence. It helped establish the setting, while simultaneously crediting the people involved.

What about First Contact? Without the title sequence we wouldn't have that awesome music setting up the mood and the very first scene would lose impact.

There are always exceptions. First Contact's opening had me mesmerized when I saw it in the theater just because the music really was so amazing. I can still watch it now and be captivated by it.

Man, now I want to watch that movie.

It's silhouettes of naked women for 3-4 minutes. How does that serve no purpose??

And the visuals aren't random; they symbolize elements of the film's story. At least, that's the idea. The Maurice Binder-designed Bond titles are the best ones.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

First Contact's credit sequence was amazing for the music and the set up for the opening shot. Nemesis was okay as well. Star Wars which surprisingly hasn't been mentioned with it's opening crawls of course.

They just go one for way too long, and most of the songs suck.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I will confound this argument entirely by saying I really like Fahrenheit 451's opening credits.

Oh yeah, that was inspired. Of course, it's not too different from what Quinn Martin shows on TV were doing at the time, having the announcer declare the episode title and guest stars, but it was a great thematic fit for the story.

Godard did it in 1963, in CONTEMPT (three years before FAHRENHEIT 451--I can't say when it comes to the TV shows you're referring to). I only know because I just saw that film for a class, but, there you go.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Well, of course, the Quinn Martin shows were just continuing a pattern that was common on TV in the '50s, which -- like most early TV conventions -- originated on radio. Obviously credits on radio shows had to be spoken, so early TV shows tended to use announcers the same way.

Well, I did refer to its absence of opening cast/crew credits and the trouble that this landed Lucas in with the DGA - this was later expanded on by Christopher.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

According to recent rumors, Eva Green (Casino Royale) and Naomi Watts (The Ring) have been cast in The Dark Knight Rises. Green is rumored to play Talia al Ghul while Watts has been purportedly set to play Vicki Vale, who was played by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton's first Batman movie back in 1989.

There are other rumors circulating the net as well. Apparently we'll see a new Batmobile (aka The Tumbler) in the new movie since the last one was destroyed by a rocket launcher in The Dark Knight. This Batmobile will purportedly be "sleeker" than the last design, with the requisite gadgets. The Bat-Cave will also feature in the new movie, and will mirror the design of the cave that we saw in Batman Begins, but with some familiar elements from the comics that fans know and love, such as the rotating platform that the Batmobile uses to enter and leave, storage facility for Batman's outfits, a huge supercomputer display, etc.

These of course are all highly speculative so take them with a grain of salt until you hear otherwise, however they don't seem at all outlandish given the circumstances of the last two movies and the recent string of rumors. It was pretty much expected that we'd see a new Batmobile and Bat-Cave after the events of the previous films, and we've been hearing rumors for a while about a female villain and a love interest, so these rumors seem to jive with what we've been hearing.

What are everyone's thoughts? I'm a huge fan of Eva Green, so I'm stoked for this casting if true. I was kinda pulling for either Rachel Weisz or Natalie Portman, but Green is still an excellent choice regardless. I'm not so sure how I feel about Watts or Vicki Vale appearing again, but I'm open to the idea. Of course, I'm really excited at the notion of a new Batmobile and Bat-Cave, and very curious to see what aesthetic direction Nolan heads in terms of the designs for both.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Well my choice for Talia would never have flown for a big budget movie (Stana Katic, who's voicing her in the Arkham City game, or Sarah Shahi), but Green is a bit of a surprise if true.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Well, that last report was debunked real fast. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Eva Green and Naomi Watts have not been cast, citing their busy schedules.

Apparently Nolan is looking at Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel and two lesser known actresses named Kate Mara (last seen in Iron Man 2) and Charlotte Riley, who is incidentally engaged to Tom Hardy. They will all screen test in the next two weeks.

Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) was also being considered, but she's been cast in a film for Paramount Pictures instead.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Jessica Biel????? And people were complaining about Katie Holmes' performance.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Yeah, I'd be pretty disappointed if Biel joined the cast. She does have a Batman connection, though: She starred as Abagail Whistler in Blade: Trinity, which was directed by David Goyer. Perhaps that's how her name got thrown into the mix? Out of all those actresses mentioned, I would prefer Hathaway and Knightley.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I still don't think it will be Hathaway...she's been circling two other flicks, one in particular that she thinks will have Oscar buzz for her but who knows? Anne has been long rumored and seems to out last other actresses. If not Hathaway I'd prefer Keira Knightly...too bad the Eva Green rumor was debunked because she'd be my fanboy pick for Talia :)

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I'd have preferred an actress that looked more ethnic for Talia, like Sarah Shahi, but since Ras wasn't all that ethnic in Liam I'll take Gemma for the win!

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Gemma Arterton is like Natalie Portman right now, she's rumored for EVERYTHING it seems. I keep seeing her name pop up for projects all over the place. She's hot but doesn't strike me as the greatest actress and I'll grant that the only thing that I've seen her in is "Clash of the Titans:" so far lol.
