Favorite musicians/bands?

Between the Buried and Me
Opeth
Dark Tranquillity
Porcupine Tree
Rush
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Yes
Genesis
Mastodon
Fear Factory

Grew up on classic and progressive rock and turned into a metalhead for a few years. Now that I'm older I've mellowed out a little. Although there's still something about an old school death metal growl on a bad day....

Oh dear, not ABBA.

I will confess that I've been known to run out onto a dance floor when the DJ plays "Dancing Queen". But I do it because it was my ex-mother-in-law's favourite song, and she passed away about 13 years ago, so I do it for her.
Don't go making excuses, now. You know ABBA rules.

(Although "Dancing Queen" is one of my least favorite of their songs. "Waterloo" is far awesomer.)

I love ABBA but I can't listen to "S.O.S." without thinking of Pierce Brosnan's extraordinary rendition. :scream:

I've tried to get into Opeth, but I just can't do it. I hate that guy's voice. JMHO.

I do however, love Porcupine Tree.

:techman:

Have you ever listened to Karnivool? We saw them open for PT last year, and they were surprisingly good.

My favorite guitarist is Neal Schon, so I'm a big fan of Journey, Bad English, Santana, and quite a bit of his solo, and one-off bands like HSAS, Soul Sirkus, Schon & Hammer, etc.
I also love The Who, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Genesis, The Cars, Brad Paisley and George Strait.

1920s Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson
Carl Stalling/WB Orchestra
Thelonious Monk
Eric Dolphy
Zappa/The Mothers of Invention
The Who
Deep Purple (Mk II)
Jeff Beck
Fairport Convention
Little Feat
Talking Heads
Soundgarden

and many, many more...

At the moment Im liking Mumford and Sons...but I also like bands such as Boney M and Dire Straits...as well as australian music such as Powderfinger.

<runs off to numerous playlists...>

Top of the list is Deep Purple. Mk II, Mk IV (yeah, I said it, 'Come Taste The Band' is vastly underrated), Mk IIa, Mk VII-VIII. Even a couple of tracks off Mk V's album.

Aside from that...

Rush
The Police, as well as some of Sting's solo stuff
Motorhead
Tangerine Dream
Animal Logic (Stewart Copeland & Stanley Clarke, 'nuff said)
Box of Frogs
Christy Moore
Jethro Tull (a new appreciation)
Led Zeppelin (best of tracks, some tracks leave me meh)
Ottmar Liebert
Rainbow (all versions)
Rod Stewart (especially Every Picture Tells A Story)
Skyhooks
Split Enz
The Sweet (great pop rock)
and a bunch of random stuff from Windham Hill

Oddly enough, two of my all time favourite songs are from no one on that list: Mary Hopkin with 'Temma Harbour', and Peter Sarstedt with 'Frozen Orange Juice'. When it comes to individual songs (where I'm not keen on other songs by the band), the list is staggeringly long.

There are a lot of bands and artists that I do like (Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Tenacious D), but my favorite band is Pearl Jam.

I could listen to their discography all day on repeat. I have like 7 different versions of "Even Flow" and I could play them all in a row and not get sick of that song.

Pearl Jam, pretty much all day every day. Everything else on my ipod is pretty schizo - Zeppelin, Paul Simon, John Doe, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Rise Against, Ektomorf, Grateful Dead...

And a bunch of musicals. Shush.

My ipod playlist is pretty bizarre...ive got anything from hardcore techno to Bollywood music on it...
warpmephaseme...musicals are cool! I have Les Miserables and The Rocky Horror Show on my ipod

We ABBA fans are everywhere. Deal with it. ;)

I know. Abba fans are like hippies. You just can't get permanently rid of them. :p

Loreena McKennitt is awesome, though.

ABBA isn't so bad. They've got the catchy formula down pat. I also hear there's a possibility of a reunion. I read it on a site and the source I think was Ingrid. They'd only do it for charity purposes and not a full blown tour like most reunions do though.

Their song 'So Long' is actually pretty rocky, if they'd just turned the guitar up in the mix.

I really want to like bands such as Deer Hunter, Arcade Fire, and various other "indie" bands but it's a bit tough. All these bands are the ones that make the top lists at the end of the year, yet for some reason I guess it's an acquired taste.

So the bands I like lean towards the Country Side with some various pop/rock singers and bands in there:

Zac Brown Band
The Band Perry
SheDAISY
The Dixie Chicks
Jamey Johnson
Johnny Cash
Robyn
Metallica
Green Day
Miranda Lambert
Steve Miller Band
Linkin Park (the first two albums mostly)
Heuy Lewis and the News
Hootie and the Blowfish
Cage the Elephant
The Beatles
Alanis Morrissette

My tastes are really all over the place, so why don't like like some of the bands I mentioned at the top of this post I wonder.
