It's really not a threat. But people see things that others don't, and vice versa. That's what makes TV great. There's (usually) something for everybody.
Feel free to leave definitions of what is and is not trolling to the Mods. That is what we get paid the big bucks for. Thanks. Now back to our regularly scheduled, civil discussion.
My OTP is T/T, but I find that other people preferring A/T in no way threatens my favorite pairing. (Since it's all subjective anyway, what does it matter?) I will say that Archer and T'Pol had some great moments during the Vulcan arc.
I find all that "it threatens your OTP" talk childishly amusing. Besides, there's only one true pairing on TV and that's Pacy & Joey.
I see the temptation to snipe persists, despite bluedana's caution. Stop. Now. We've already been through the shipper wars here, and we do not intend to go through it again. Be civil to your fellow board members, please. For those of you who look favorably on Archer/T'Pol, you are always welcome to start your own appreciation thread, which would be off-limits to anti-A/T'P fervor.
You've never seen Dawson's Creek? It's a teen drama from my high school days, with Katie Holmes back when she was still respectable, and Joshua Jackson way before his uber-cool Peter Bishop days. James Van Der Beek plays the title role. Who, you ask? I have no idea what happened to that guy afterwords.
Thank You Mach5. Even though we subscribed to the intergalactic cable package at the Forge on Vulcan this show eluded me. A young Katie Holmes? Damn!
Thanks for the calendar, HR! Some of my favorite A/T'P moments are involve both of them risking their lives and reputations for each other. Some people could see friendship (or barely see it). I saw really two people caring about each other, deeply. I think every episode where Archer told T'Pol he was sacrificing himself (Vulcan arc, Twilight, Azati Prime, Andorian arc, etc.) and everyone where T'Pol has sacrificed for him (Vulcan arc, Twilight, etc.) were absolutely beautiful for at least friendship. And because their friendship was so believable, it created something more beautiful to me: a potential for a relationship.
Someone at the Expanse recently mentioned the tribunal scene in "Precious Cargo". That was a great moment. Not enough to make me 'ship them, but damn it was funny! I wanted to be a fly on the wall during those unseen moments of "Captain, I'm not doing this..."/"Come on, it'll be fun!"/"Vulcans don't--"/"Yes, they do."
For someone who obviously likes the two, I'm surprised you can't spell one of them. :P (Dude, it's PacEy.) You had shipper wars? O.o Now THAT would be fun to see. Talk about completely pointless.
Uhm, I knew that... The whole idea of a message board is basically pointless fun. I'd allow shipper wars, so long as they adhere to the Geneva convention
This thread was obviously started by someone who was looking to connect with others who felt the same way. That some people have to make it their personal mission to take it as an invitation to crap all over someone else's good time just because they feel differently is sad (and kinda immature)--and now that attacking the 'ship has been stopped, the thread's being blown off-topic with talk about some crappy teen soap. Fabulous. Let me know when we're ready to talk about Enterprise again.
Trust me, it was not fun for those who had to suffer through it. This is not a "positive comments only" board. It is a discussion board. Since the OP did not specifically designate this as a pro-Archer/T'Pol appreciation thread, it has been perceived by some as a topic to express, "I prefer A/T'P" or "I don't," and some have expressed the latter. There is now an [thread=134765]Archer/T'Pol appreciation thread [/thread] for those seeking to celebrate A/T'P without detractors. Some people in fandoms are quite passionate about pointing out what they don't like. Their reasons may not make sense to you (universal "you"), but they have their reasons, and their opinions are valuable to them. It is the prerogative of posters on a discussion board to share their viewpoints, positive or negative, as long as they remain civil. I would remind everyone, again, to stick to offering comments about the topic, rather than persisting in passing judgment on the people making those comments ("immature," "childish," accusations of trolling, etc.). It serves only to make the atmosphere of the forum less friendly and inviting. IDIC, okay?
I would honestly still be interested in seeing which scenes the Archer/T'Pol enthusiasts feel exemplify "Archer/T'Pol" and why they feel these scenes exemplify it.
I think it's more conceptual. Early-series Trip seems like a fun-loving guy, who needles T'Pol for fun and as a friend, but not in a romantic sense, whereas Archer and Polly have great chemistry, more serious personalities, and spend more time together by virtue of being the most senior officers. Bottom line, I never saw Trip as being compatible with someone so cold and distant. With Archer, I saw potential, even if that potential wasn't much explored - outside of ANIS, where they totally said they'd like to bone each other.
^Yep. I agree...like I said waaayyy back in this thread, it's not really about what HAPPENED or didn't happen...although there are those that will quote Nero... "It HAS HAPPENED! I SAW IT HAPPEN! I WATCHED IT HAPPEN! DON'T TELL ME IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!" Here's my post from earlier: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=123234&page=3
