I'm pretty sure my neighbors are running a brothel.

The odd thing is that it's loud Indian music.

Okay, someone else knocked and entered. This one a youngish (20s) looking woman of some Middle-Eastern, or related, descent. (i.e. black hair, brownish skin.).

Brown-skinned and black-haired people playing Indian music? Wow, that is odd. If you smell curry I think it's time to call the cops, because clearly strange things are afoot.

Maybe they only open their door wide enough to let people in because their neighbor across the breezeway keeps watching them all night long. :p

More than likely it's nothing more sinister than some Indian college kids partying with friends and getting high as college kids sometimes do, and they don't want the whole world to see their business.

Here's some kick-ass Indian music for you to listen to in the meantime:

This song was all over the airwaves here a few years ago. Simply awesome. :techman:

Either call the cops or join them. Have you asked them to quiet down? Or are you just stewing over in your apartment.

It's called being popular and social.

I can tell you one thing, if my neighbours were being popular and social at midnight every night I'd be pretty pissed, regardless of the kind of the music they played.

Oh being pissed off would be natural. Being suspicious and acting like it's extremely unusual is a bit much.

I know what you were trying to get across and I totally agree, I was just surprised no one seemed to be bothered by the late hour loud music was being played at.

Reminds me of when I lived next door to the cute lesbian pot smokers that liked tan.

I welcomed them to the area with a case of beer.

Maybe they just have friends, and prefer hanging out with people to sitting home quitely alone all night?

Obnoxiously loud Indian music, eh? Probably one person sitting around wallowing in nostalgia...

Well, the thing is this muisc plays every night and it's for hours on end. The music is so loud that, as I said, it can be heard quite clearly inside my walls -which means the music is really loud considering the two walls and 8-10 feet of air between our two places and is louder than most "normal apartment noise." Given that my own TV in "loud conditions" cannot be heard beyond my wall.

As for other neighbors, I suspect my neighbor can hear it as well as I can, the Brothel's direct next-door neighbor is another story. The lay out of the apartments likely wouldn't lend itself to the next-door guy being too disturbed. The upstairs neighbor would likely hear muffled noise through his floor.

I've considered complaining to the office but, feh. It doesn't really bother me much beyond a "WTF is going on over there?"

I can say that it's a two-bedroom unit and they have at least one adult bicycle and a child's plastic tricycle that's theirs (chained to the stairway supports.)

The fact that they're indian, or even the type of music playing, was just some details on my part. If anyone here knows me well enough they should know I hold no prejudices. But I can say they have frequent visitors in and out all nigh long, I can hear their door opening and closing frequently as these doors are loud and, naturally, the music also gets louder. I've only started "spying" through my peephole infrequently the last couple of days and noticed the disparity of visitors who come and go. It's literally like someone comes over and then a few minutes later someone else leaves only for a little while later for someone else to come over. Visitors always knock, rather than simply opening the door or using a key. (And, for clarity, this is all stuff I can hear going on out there the echoy breezeway lends itself nicely to hearing things like knocks, keys being used and doors being opened)

It's all just very... odd. But it really striks me as odd that every night they'd be listening to this loud music (no mater what genre it is) for several hours on end even going into the "quiet time" of 10 PM as mandated by community rules.

There's just something really fishy going on over there.

I have a neighbor that plays techno at all hours. Four in the morning, two in the afternoon, evenings, nights ... It's kind of annoying. I don't mind loud music during the evening or night, particularly a weekend, but I hate the absolute unpredictability of it. I don't think I've ever reg'd a complaint in my life but this guy has been pushing me over the edge. Honestly though, I'd just go talk to the guy if I knew which condo was his!

If it were me, I'd definitely go over for a visit. As others suggest, maybe you should try that Trekker. Bring a welcoming gift since you'd be a first time visitor on a social level, and get to know them. Plus, Punjabi dancing is kickass.

Really? It would drive me absolutely bonkers.

If my neighbor were playing loud music after 10 p.m. every goddamn night, first I'd go over there and politely ask them to turn it down. If the problem continued, I'd tell the building owner. If that didn't work, I'd call the cops. People need to show some consideration for others. And there are local noise ordinances for when they don't.
