The field of Qualcomm Stadium is under water because of all the rain, and it's the day before the Poinsettia Bowl. A couple pics here.

A sixth football student-athlete must sit out the first game in 2011 for receiving discounted services in violation of NCAA rules.

Somehow, the NCAA has decided that they don't have to miss the Sugar Bowl, though. Apparently....
"the student-athletes did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred" – even though the NCAA decided to dock a fifth game on top of the standard four game suspension because the players "did not immediately disclose the violations when presented with the appropriate rules education."
When will these schools and athletes learn? I mean, it's not Reggie Bush level, but still you'd think the universities would be all over this kind of stuff now.

Pryor & Co. deserve much ridicule for being this stupid. Personally, imho the right thing for Tressel and Smith and the OSU leadership to do is to start their suspension right away with the Sugar Bowl. I agree with their move to challenge the overall penalty of 5 games next season. But a suspensions is right and should start immediately.
However, the NCAA should bear the biggest brunt for their schizophrenic handling of things. And Mark May should just shut the heck up for saying that the poor, put upon SEC would be locked in a sweatbox and fed gruel if the same thing happened to Ryan Mallett. That the NCAA always protects its "sacred cows like the Big Ten and the PAC-10" (sic).
Pssst... remember Cam Newton? He was given no punishment whatsoever, for a more than suspicious history dating back to his days at Florida.

Big surprise. The NCAA wouldn't dare risk one of their precious Bowl games. Without Pryor and the other stars, the ratings would drop, and the NCAA would make less money off of the game.
What a wild & weird season of college football! A few thoughts:
1. With the continued dominance of the SEC, how long until the rest of the country gives up playing football? LOL When the same conference wins the championship every year, at least it takes the wind out of the sails of the playoff argument.
2. Poor Oregon doesn't stand a chance in the bowl game. Auburn is head and shoulders above the Ducks, any way you look at it. This could get ugly quick. Oregon is not going to have an answer for the best O-Line in football blocking for the best back in football. I think what's going to shock people the most is how Auburn is going to shut down the Oregon offense. Mark it down: they won't score 20 points. The final score of Auburn's coronation is going to be something like 45-17.
3. Auburn's national championship is great for the school, and especially Cam, who has had some of the most vile, scum-of-the-earth sportswriters trying to tarnish his season and career. What should have been the feel-good story of the year has been turned into a circus by these low-lifes. This BCS championship makes it that much sweeter, though.
4. It's a joke that after all the conspiracy theories of Auburn's supposed violations, Ohio State actually commits real violations, and the players still play in the bowl. Ohio St should sell its Sugar Bowl trophy, and send the money to the NCAA, because I think this is the year they actually win a post-season game against the SEC. Well, the SEC sure was different this year. Florida was subpar, and Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Georgia were awful.

I've thought Texas Christian the nation's most complete team for quite some time now, but that Wisconsin was the worst possible match-up for them. The Frogs didn't dominate, granted, but they found a way to handle arguably the hottest team in the country. They're definitely deserving of national championship consideration, no matter the power conferences' claims.
Andrew Luck is a #1 pick for sure now.
I hope Arkansas beats the crap out of Ohio State tonight. I expect at least a 21 point differential.

Heckuva game. I know.. a tainted victory, and I stand by what I said earlier - that the OSU suspensions should have started with the Sugar Bowl. However, I also trust Tressel's decision and the plan he devised for these players. So I'm setting that aside since we all know the details.
An unreal game. First, because of the relative ease with which OSU dominated Arkansas for almost 3 quarters. Then, the incredible - and unfortunately all too common - comeback that Arkansas almost pulled off. I absolutely HATE the way that OSU went conservative in the second half!!!
How many freakin' times does that have to happen before teams realize that you have to step on their necks when you get the chance?!?Mallett looks ready to go pro to me. He gets a little unnerved at times, but the potential is there. Is he 1st round material? I doubt it, but he's got the tools.
