Wow! That was one heck of a cliff hanger ending in that Spock chapter excerpt. I can't wait to find out what happenes to Spock and to see Sisko in Command of a ship again.

Well, Sisko returns to Starfleet temporarily to help battle the Borg during the timeframe of David Mack's brilliant Destiny trilogy. He commands the Nebula-class New York.

^ Hey, I love David Mack's writing, and I know some readers refer to him as the angel of death, but I've penned my own share of death and destruction. Some of my other first lines include:

• In an instant, he saw how she would die.
• He heard the explosion before he saw it, and as he turned and peered down into the valley to witness walls of flame surging skyward, he knew that he’d found what he’d come here seeking.
• He watched her die, and in that terrible instant, he relived the moment of their separation, felt the weight of the years since, and regretted everything.

I'm just sayin'....

Wow, you really do know how to hook the reader.

I was taught to always open with a good hook to get people interested in wanting to read it.

We did get to see him [Sisko] in command, fighting the Borg, during the magazine excerpt. Are the characters in the excerpt major characters in the book?

If I say that some or all of the characters aboard New York play major roles in the novel, then readers could infer that Sisko remains in Starfleet, captaining that crew. But the truth is that Sisko returned to active duty specifically because of the terrible threat posed by the Borg invasion. His posting to New York is indeed temporary.

That's the most engaging writing since Destiny. Sold.
