What is the chance of one last hurrah for TNG?

Slim to none, my friend. Maybe if they made a cartoon, you might hear the familiar voices reprise their roles. As I understand it, haven't most of the TNG regulars lent their voices to various ST video games?

It's really not dead. As long as we remember it.

:techman:

I was one of the few who LIKED Nemesis. I thought it was pretty good, had some holes, but brought closure to the series. I didn't care much for the entire B4 subplot...

Yup. I didn't love Nemesis, but I definitely liked and enjoyed it.

Interesting, I didn't see it that way. I agree Urban did a great job with McCoy, but I don't think Quinto got Spock right at all, and I thought Pine's character was more generic punk, juvenile delinquent than Captain Kirk.

But this is off topic.

It is, indeed. ;) But I agree w/ you.

A full blown Hollywood movie featuring the TNG cast is most likely never going to happen. Someone might be able to use new technology to do a fan-created full CGI one in about 10 or 15 years when the technology and the rights are cheaper - with CGI actors - but Stewart, Frakes, et al., are done, except maybe as a cameo in ST:2 or something.

I don't see anything wrong with a special on TV, focusing on a reunion voyage on the TItan where Riker is commander. They could do it without Stewart, I think Frakes can carry it by himself.

That is a good idea, I always wanted to see the Titan mentioned in Nemesis.

"Just one more bedtime story... please?"

Let's face it: No matter how many TNG appearances there are, those of us who are strong TNG fans will keep on wishing for just one more new adventure. TNG ended well, and the key to good magic is to leave the audience wanting more, which it certainly did.

Nemesis killed Next Gen. I thought Nemesis was OK, but honestly, I really don't want to see another Frakes Next Gen movie where the captain and the bad guy fight for the last 10 minutes of the film again. It was getting so formulaic and stale. Once Jar Jar Abram's movies run their course, they might consider a reboot of TNG. Of course, they'll need to dumb it down, shake the camera to the point where everything is a blur, add unrealistic and somewhat stupid action sequences and make it a mindless shadow (almost a parody) of the original, but we'll probably see something in another decade or so. Hmmm. Who would be cast? The Lindsey Lohan as Riker (you know that they would have to make at least one male character a female), Kim Kardashian as Troi, Justin Beiber as Wesley, Jessica Simpson as Crusher, and Danny DeVito as Picard.

Cynicism of your previous post aside, I do agree with your point-the TNG movie series was already much more action-oriented than the show typically was, and since AbramsTrek was built on being more summer blockbuster space adventure than Star Trek and was succesfull for it, I'd imagine that when the time came to reboot TNG it would be even more in the AbramsTrek style than it otherwise would be.

That was one awkward run-on sentence.

A smaller project, free of the chains of being a film franchise, could still work. You wouldn't really need Stewart, or anyone in particular, for it. The only question is whether there is a story worth telling with some of those characters. What would it have to say? Just doing it for nostalgia is doomed to suck.
But is there a good, layered, sci-fi story there, that could add something good and satisfying to the tapestry, and not detract from it?
I think there could be a good humanistic story there. It wouldn't be all the TNG crew on the bridge of the Enterprise. There's a story there on life and mortality - on maintaining friendships - on not losing contact as the years and the suffering accumulates - a story that nuTrek can't tell because it's too..nu...such a story would still have an adventure aspect but would have a seasoning and depth the new stuff is incapable of.

Sir Patrick Stewart has said he is too old to play a starship captain, but what is the opportunity of one last hurrah, with all of the cast?

The focus, understandably, is on Abrams' Trek, but a TNG last hurrah could wrap up 24th century Trek, and allow a good basis for a Trek series in the 25th or even 26th century.

Is this just wishful thinking?

I miss STNG a lot sometimes, but I think they have played out the E-E's story. I could see maybe Titan or Aventine, but not Enterprise. Unlike many, I thought Nemesis was just fine...and I found myself looking at a non-HD version of Nemesis last night on TV even though I have the 1080p DVD. What a sucker.

RAMA

I'd even settle for a remastered TNG, if they were wiling to do that. I LOVED what they did with TOS.:techman:
Unfortunately, TOS's HD remaster was much easier than a potential TNG HD remaster would be. I'm sure it will happen, but it's going to be much more of a challenge than was TOS.

I agree on the idea of a one-off TV episode, perhaps on the Titan, something in the vein of what 'Gods and Men' did for the original series characters. Piccard could make a cameo, but the real action would be lead by Riker and the other younger regulars.

TNG is done.

Hey, they should gather all the characters who got shafted, sucked, and/or had shitty writing and make a film. You know, Hoshi Sato at Communications, Travis Mayweather at the conn, Harry Kim at Ops, Kes as Chief Medical Officer, and Tasha Yar at Tactical, all voyaging on the USS Forgettable. Commanding officer? Chakotay.

Instead of doing crappy Phase II fan films they could get most of the actors together to do a crappy TNG/DS9 fan film, how would that sound?

How about an epic TNG - A Final Unity style game with all the actors as voice actors? PS3 and XBox are amazing platforms to do such a thing (think of Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Mass Effect or Red Dead Redemption. Free exploration in the game world, and every mission comes with a long cut scene with great performances. They could basically realize a high quality TNG movie script within such a game).

Been waiting a decade for a game like this. Sadly, I don't think it'll ever happen.

Privately--and this was way before Nemesis--I predicted that the last TNG movie would be in either 2008 or 2009, after which the movies would continue with a never before seen 24th-Century ship and crew that would be more faster-paced and action-oriented than TNG.

Regardless of how way off the mark I was, I still feel that by now the ship would have sailed for the TNG cast even if they had continued making a couple of movies past Nemesis...

I did not like any of the TNG films. I wont watch any of them. I liked all the TOS films except for ST:V, but even that film was better than any of the TNG ones. I'll re-watch all the TOS movies from time to time, but never the TNG ones.

The problem is that Patrick Stewart probably would not want to do it as he has moved on in his career, which he should. Stewart (like the rest of the human race and God Himself) hated the way Nemesis came out and more or less publically stated that this was his last Star Trek film project. He moved on to X-Men.

Brent Spiner has stated that he is too old to be Data, who is an android and thus timeless and not ageless. But I think he and most of the other actors would jump on board immediately. Frakes would scream like a little school girl at the prospect of another big movie payday.

The 2009 film had a stupid storyline. Romulus gets destroyed, crazy Romulan goes back in time with planet killing machine who changed time while looking for Spock, for whom Mr. Romulan dude blamed for Romulus' destruction. Then Kirk becomes a Captain of the flagship when he is still a cadet? Honestly, this was the best storyline they could of come up with?

If you don't care for TNG OR TOS 2009, then what do you want?:wtf::rolleyes:

Let's be honest though, when TV shows are brought back after an abscence, they always tend to flop as they're never as good as we remember them.

Could we handle seeing TNG rehashed? It could very well ruin the magic.

I can see an animated TNG series, maybe with Frakes as a captain, a crossover with other MT series, and reocurring roles for Stewart and others. Given that Stewart'd doing a lot of voice acting, and many of the cast have had similar experiences, I could easily see this run on Cartoon Network like The Clone Wars.

And with animation, the sky's the limit on what they could do, where they could go, etc. without worrying about the actor's age.

I'd watch that.

I only want two TNG characters back; Data and Geordi.

How about an NBC movie of the week?

Watson, I presume...:techman:
