Got tickets for the Packers/Vikings game. They're supposed to be good seats, but at the Metrodome, that doesn't mean a whole lot.

I think they ended up being good seats :guffaw:
Yeah, even though we sat 4 rows from the roof (my friend that got the tickets misread them- good thing they were free), watching the Packers kick ass made those tickets seem pretty good. Don't want those seats ever again, though- I could barely hear the "Fire Childress" chants.

Nice, I was either 3 or 4 rows from hitting my head the one time I went to the dump for Packers and Vikings. I literally made sure to get a new prescription for my glasses before the game to make sure I could see something. It was the Favre breaks Dan Marino's TD record game in 2007. Pretty cool. Maybe loses a little of its luster in hindsight though!

That was a pretty fun game to watch last night. Way to slide, Eli! Dumbass...

:scream:

Vince Young...what a tool. Maybe the Titans could bring in Leinart next year.

FRAKKING JETS!!! :scream:

Oh well, at least the Patriots are still up over the Colts going into the half. Hopefully they stay on top.

I picked my wife (Pats nut) from the airport at about 3:30 yesterday. I musta broken at least 7 traffic laws getting home in time for kickoff. The first half was great, but you just knew the Colts had a run in them and that the Pats D would be gassed by the 4th and exploited.

Gaaaaaahhh, that was damn close. I'm always nervous when Peyton Manning goes into halftime trailing, because he tends to come out in the second half and light it up. And he did it again tonight. Thankfully he was kind enough to throw three interceptions, including one that sealed the game for the Patriots. Thanks, Peyton. :techman:

As sometimes happens during Pats games, my wife and I both screamed so loud when Sanders picked that off, that the dogs got scared and ran upstairs.

Considering they play beatable opponents on Thursday, there's a real shot of the Jets and Pats being 9-2 for their showdown on MNF in 2 weeks, which may decide #1 in the AFC. Luckily, I got tickets.

I had a blast last night

and I'm only too happy to see Vince Young tank like turd in swirl mode.

The Vikings announced that Brad Childress got the boot. Second time this season (the other being Wade Phillips) that a coach got canned after getting trounced by the Packers.

I doubt the Texans will get Cowher. Cowher's going to want a setup very similar to what he had in Pittsburgh, where he had the ultimate control over personnel decisions. I really doubt Rick Smith is going to step aside and let himself become a second fiddle to a Type A personality like Cowher.

Cowher's more likely to wind up somewhere like Minnesota or Carolina, possibly Jacksonville or San Francisco. I'd give my left nut to see Cowher running the show at Halas Hall, but there's no way Ted Phillips will sack his boys Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith after a 7 - 3 start, even though their entire tenure has been a colossal disaster.

Ugh, my poor Vikings... :(

Am I the only one who feels bad for Childress?

I'm not sure whose idea it was to bring Brett Favre to Minnesota, but this was an organization that was making strides prior to him taking over for Tarvaris Jackson. In Childress' first three years (pre-Favre) they were 6-10, 8-8 and 10-6 (.500 overall but headed in the right direction). Obviously he was doing something right to get the organization going in the right direction.

Childress was overmatched as a head coach, just as Wade Phillips, Dom Capers and Norv Turner have been. They're still some of the best defensive / offensive coordinators in the history of the NFL, though. That said, Childress lost his team, and did so in a hilarious fashion.

Let's face it: You can't travel down to a player's home to try to convince him to come back, and then pick him up from the airport and drive him to the practice facility, and then turn around and hope to retain any amount of credibility in your locker room. Once you take steps like that, it's very clear who wears the pants.

That may have been the case, but it's no guarantee they'd have done any better after that. Favre was a major upgrade over Jackson, as proven by how close they came to making it to the Super Bowl. That's no excuse for his actions off the field and so on, but I think they had to take the chance. Now how that was handled is an entirely different matter, as Timby points out.

But was this Childress or were these directives coming from higher on in the organization (Zygi Wilf is trying to get a new stadium built)? Childress always seemed 'lukewarm' when discussing Favre, even when they were winning.

Alot of what is being said about Childress and Jackson seem to be somewhat revisionist, I guess to keep from hurting Favre's feelings?

The last four games Jackson played from the Vikings 2008 season (3 wins and 1 loss)...

@ Detroit - 8/10, 105 yds, 1 TD
@ Arizona - 11/17, 163 yds, 4 TD
Atlanta - 22/36, 233 yds, 2 TD
NY Giants - 16/26, 239 yds, 1 TD

Seems like a guy that with continued development could have been a decent NFL QB. Let's also not forget that he was Childress' "guy", drafted in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft.

All-in-all, I not 100% certain the current Vikings' debacle lies on Brad Childress doorstep alone.

And the worst thing that can happen for the Vikings' at this point is for them to win a couple of games and Favre play a little better... then you have this circus with Favre going on next August again.

The Vikings' need to move on from Favre as soon as is humanly possible. Which Leslie Frazier seems reluctant to do.

I'm not defending Childress, and I've said that Tarvaris Jackson has been treated unfairly during his time in Minnesota, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I think the evidence shows that Childress wasn't overmatched as a head coach pre-Favre. This wasn't a guy being maligned as 'out-of-touch' (at least nationally) until Favre got there.

If Childress couldn't coach, it would've been better for the Vikings' organization to figure it out before dropping $30 million dollars on Brett Favre and going 0-fer in their Super Bowl hunt.

^The difference between the pre-Favre era and the Favre era is that Childress hadn't started losing the team until Favre arrived (at least publicly). When Favre arrived and the pissing match started between those two, that's when you started hearing more about the team's lack of respect for him. At this stage, Chilly's only hope for regaining his locker room would be a complete house cleaning of the players. From the moment that he was picked up from the airport, it became apparent that Chilly was Favre's bitch and everything during the season pointed to that, right up to Favre refusing to be pulled with no consequences against him.

In my opinion, Chilly chucking Moss was his attempt at saying, "I'm the coach, you guys will listen to me and respect me or it'll be the door for you too." Too bad it worked against him.
