Merlin series 3

I sort of like the way they behave like kids toward each other but they both need to mature in their relationships with everyone else. At least this episode didn't have the prize gurner in it much. If the series progresses for any length of time, that bond they have will be strong.

Merlin and Arthur's relationship is the best thing about the show. There does seem to be real warmth there when there needs to be. But there does need to be proper movement for everyone else.

merlin and arthur seem like typical male friends. they care for each other a lot, but are completely incapable of actually vocalising their emotions. hence Arthur's using Merlin as target practice and Merlin's habitual insulting of Arthur with stupid names because he can't just call him a wanker.

You've summed it up perfectly cc! They are the quintissential two guys who are lifelong friends but wouldn't be able to say the 'l' word if it meant getting their arms ripped off.

God don't shange Arthur and Merlin that's half the reason I watch it! And they have moved it along somewhat, Arthur is, occasionally, more inclined to take MErlins's advice these days...sometimes ;)

The show finally has lost me as a viewer, why oh why does family equal stupid. If the writers just handled situations and actual character and plot development just a little more realistically I could forgive a lot, but every single time I think hey they are finally making progress they drop the ball have situations basically revert to as if nothing as occurred. Its a huge, huge dramatic cheat and I can't abide it anymore.

Well, you people must have some funny old relationships then, because i've never violently hurled hard objects at the head of anybody I purport to like or respect.

You haven't? You simply must.

^ I guess I just prefer not to kill and injure my loved ones :p

You're not a mythical medieval prince. Or are you?

Well, that's my point. He's not just any guy, he's Arthur, he's supposed to be a hero in the making, but he spends half his relationship with Merlin throwing his toys out of the pram. The guy's a dick.

In a kingdom of dicks he's the least dickly.

As for not killing or injuring loved ones... That's just sad man. If you can't hurt or kill loved ones, who can you?

^ Well, that's true, but it's particularly the fact the he treats everyone else with respect, apart from the person who deserves it most. That is a big black mark on his character.

Don't really have a problem with it, they treat each other the same. Merlin calls him names, occasionally does things to make him hurt himself. Sure it's an exaggerated level but it basically seems to be friendly banter between them.

That's the most interesting point-would anyone else of Merlin's standing in the world be allowed to insult Arthur as he does? Maybe Gwen but that'd be it...hell the Knights wouldn't be allowed to talk back to Arthur the way Merlin does. That, in effect, Arthur's best friend is a serving boy, and the woman he loves a serving girl, tells you more about Arthur's nature than any pot throwing or name calling.
