Number One?

This may have been done before, but I see a thread for the Best Captain, I thought I'd try something else.

In your opinion, who is the best First Officer?

For me it's Kira.

She was toughened by her early life, but also haunted by it. A firm nationalist looking out for Bajor first (her priorities immediately made her different from the Starfleeters and made me sit up and take notice). She nevered backed down from Sisko, arguing with him constantly in the beginning which gave them a good dynamic to build on. She had a great character arch and from S4 onwards a great uniform. She was also able to take out a Klingon after being stabbed in the side, and several security guards when heavily pregnant.

Though I prefer Riker as a character, I chose Spock. His skills perfectly complement Kirk's; also, like Kirk, he's absurdly competent.

I like Kira the most as a character, but I think Riker is the most competent First Officer.

What happened to the original Number One, Majel Barrett, Pike's first officer?

Uncle - It's never been established what happened to her after "The Cage". Personally I think she should have gotten the Enterprise, she was more than qualified for the post.

SPCTRE - I did think about including the original Number One as an option. As Star Trek's first First Officer, she was the benchmark for all others that followed.

As for how to choose who to vote for it's wide open, so choose who you like. There's no closing date so it'll keep on going as long as people want to add to it.

I see that Riker is in the lead at the moment, but I'm pretty sure that Spock will win out by a distance. I voted for Riker, but truth be told, Spock is the quintissential Trek first officer for me.

Well spock and riker were tired and I just broke that tie by voting for Riker.... though Kira was my close second choice.

What makes her the better character for you? Do you mean in terms of conceptulisation or execution, or something else?

It has to be Riker. From what I've seen on screen, Riker and Chakotay are the only two on that list who seem to have "proper" XO duties. Between those two character wise, Riker it is.

I voted for Spock, but I also considered T'Pol. It took her a while to grow into the role. Once she did, she balanced supporting and challenging Captain Archer very well.
