Space Battleship Yamato

BolianAuthor

Writer, Battlestar Urantia
Rear Admiral
I know there have probably been threads about this, but I didn't wanna get in trouble for necroposting an old thread. I am REALLY looking forward to this live-action Space Battleship Yamato movie, especially if they do include the original theme song, which kicks royal arse. Thing is, I don't want to watch it dubbed in English... IMO, a film like this would be best seen in the native Japanese, with only English subtitles. Anyone know what the chances of getting a DVD version like that in the USA would be?

Seeing as the most recent Godzilla movies released on DVD have that as the default setting I would say there is a good chance.

Well, if there is an English dub, I hope they give the characters their names from Star Blazers. It would be appropriate, I think.

i would love to have my local theater in Chicago show this...anyone have any details on if this movie can come to the US, and who they would contact to show it

I, as well, was a huge fan, and want to see it. Though I was sorely disappointed when I rewatched a few of the cartoons a few years ago and realized that it was low-budget, poorly-executed crap.

Still, nostalgia's a powerful force, and I can't help but get excited when I hear the theme song.

The Japanese version is great, but you should hear it in the original Klingon. :mallory:

That trailer looks pretty awesome--I love the shot of the Yamato breaking free of the ocean floor and that zoom into the bridge.

And what was wrong with the English names? Derek Wildstar has to be the coolest name for a hero ever.:)

I have always maintained that Star Blazers would be a great re-imagined live action series. The Quest for iscandar could be seasons 1 and 2 and the Comet empire seasons 3 and 4. If a live action series can maintain the emotional impact of the original series while removing campy stuff it could be a hit. besides who whould not like to see a fully 2010 rendered comet empire!

Well, I wouldn't say that. By the standards of Japanese television animation in the 1970s--and certainly by the standards of American TV animation in the '70s--it was fairly well-done, from what I recall. Limited animation, yes, but great design work.

Count me in as someone who would love to see a Starblazers live action TV series... but done by people who would know what to do... aka, NOT SyFy.
