Victory!! Victory for Zim!!

My son and I watched the marathon of Invader Zim a few months ago. My daughter used to watch it when she was little (she's almost 16 now).

Anyway, I think this is one of my favorite cartoons I have been subjected to by offspring. This show is hilarious.

Anyway, it's back on nightly on one of the Nik stations, and we've been TiVo'ing every one that's on.

Does anyone else like this show? How about other cartoons you got into because of your kids?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Gir is one of the funniest characters I've seen in a cartoon. Every time he's on the screen, funny is close behind.

My only response is:

"Go home and shave your giant head of smell with your bad self"

Emo? I guess Dib's sister had her bangs in her face sometimes....

Anyway...

A nice compilation of Gir moments....

"PIGGY! I LOVEDED YOU!!"

My son (he just turned 8) can't get enough of this show. It's a lot better than some of the crap he used to like watching.

Uh, yeah. The whole look of the thing is very Emily the Strange-ish, and the obsession with cute/childish misunderstood evil... that's pretty emo, hate to break it to ya.

That's ridiculous. Yes, "emo" kids wear the Zim gear that gets sold at Hot Topic, but that's all on the Nickelodeon marketing department and has nothing to do with the content of the show itself.

The writing and voicework are nothing like "emo." Practically the polar opposite.

I actually can't stand the show.

It's just too... weird, and the drawing style is just not for me.

That I can understand, at least. It is weird, and probably not for everyone.

Anyway, I don't have kids, but I'm enjoying Adventure Time and Regular Show on Cartoon Network on Mondays. They also show an animated MAD Magazine show somewhere in that block, but it's pretty bad.

Yes, it's certainly weird.

I just love Zim's earnestness. He really wants to conquer Earth. He just can't get it together.

And Gir is so sweetly unhelpful.

Part of Invader Zim's appeal for me is the perfect simplicity of the concept. Ignoring the animation style, etc., when I first watched it, I wondered how it hadn't really been done before. Even similar ideas don't have the little brilliant touches, like making Dib somewhat unlikable. It's one of those rare ideas where I saw it and thought, Man, I wish I'd thought of this.

In addition to the concept, Zim really succeeded in the voicework, in my opinion.

My son loves both of shows. We have a season pass to each.

Talk about weird!

Adventure Time is totally out of control.

He also like The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Another weird cartoon.

Agreed on all counts. The actor playing Zim is perfect in the passionate delivery. Zim just believes it so much.

Gir is the best character on any cartoon, ever.

"Shut your noise tube, taco human!"

Kinda funny this came up, was just reading something Jhonen Vasquez posted fairly recently saying that the network had actually been considering re-starting the show in the past year or so. Guess it was still just too weird for them.

Adventure Time is totally out of control.

It really is, but it occasionally gives me a really good laugh. Like the recent one with the vampire queen, with Jake's "cameo" in Finn's pocket. I must have rewound it four times. (I am childish.)

I like it slightly more than Regular Show, but they both give me a laugh on Monday nights and make me want to draw.

Speaking of Emily the Strange (which is more a marketing property than a character), if people want a serious reason to dislike that stuff, look no further.

I hope that guy gets sued.

I do like Adventure Time.

It's really bizarre. I like their friendship.

And the fact that the dog can become huge when he wants to, for some reason.

:techman:

Best show ever!
There are just so many good episodes it's difficult to pick a favorite, and there's so many great lines my daughter & I still use every day in normal conversation without thinking about it.
I'd watch "Megadoomer" and "Zim Eats Waffles" on a continuous loop if I could... some of the funniest animation committed to posterity since Daffy Duck & Bugs Bunny's duck season / wabbit season bits.
