Garak and Bashir

Augh, I can't wait to read "A Stitch in Time." I have it on hold at the library.
It's a great book! But don't expect to read much about Garak's bisexuality, despite what people have said here - it's just a passing reference, literally - he mentions it casually at one point.

I think he did. He was at first wierded out by it (when Garak gets handsy in "Past Prologue", note his reaction...), but he then basically views it with amusement. (Again, the "take that rod and eat it" scene)

What I enjoy about the Garak/Bashir relationship, was, whether or not you view them as having an underlying sexual tension or even just see it as a one-sided attraction on Garak's part, their relationship is still fascinating, even when viewed from a purely platonic standpoint. The friendship is unlikely but somehow believable. "The Wire" is one of my favorite episodes. I love the scene where Bashir takes Garak's hand and forgives him for "whatever it is you did." As a doctor, Bashir is naturally compassionate, something which I think simultaneously baffles and attracts Garak (not neccessarily attracts him in a sexual way, you understand). Another scenes that demonstrates the depth of their friendship is in "By Inferno's Light" in which Garak allows Bashir to present with him for the death of Tain, when the admission comes out that he's Garak's father. For the man of secrets to allow Bashir to witness such an intensely private moment and learn such a fundamental truth about himself... maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I just found it really touching.

More importantly...what does MU T'Pol have to do with Garak and Bashir?

I mean, I'm not complaining, but still....

Yes...

While at first, he seemed to tolerate Ziyal's advances with charmed amusement...he later accepted it more.

Recall the dashing speech he gave to her before leaving on a dangerous mission, to which she replied by dubbing him the greatest tailor in the galaxy....

Even though I am rather a Garak/Bashir shipper, I thought Ziyal/Garak very sweet ... I found him being somewhat reticent towards Ziyal not so much an indication that he was 'gay,' but that, on some level, he was a gentleman. Ziyal was younger, inoccent in many ways and probably very sexually inexperienced, if she had any experience at all (I doubt there was much time for/possibility of romance in that Breen prison camp, or when her father took her to Cardassia). I'm sure Garak was attracted to her but I also think that he would have taken things very, very slowly.

Yeah... and Garak don't be likin' it, either.

He doesn't want somebody throwin' a female in the mix tryin' to c-block him from Doc B.

HAH!:guffaw:Though in all honesty, I always felt Garak swung both ways ...
Perhaps, but he never showed that kind of interest in anybody except Dr. Bashir, as I seen it.

Plus, Bashir is a hotter piece than Ziyal, so it'd make sense he'd show attraction for the prettier one. Yup.

Exactly. To be honest...had she lived, I think it would have been such a wonderful direction to take the good "Plain...Simple...Garak".

Since we were never going to get Bashir/Garak I would have been perfectly happy with a continuation/deepening of the Garak/Ziyal relationship. I read a very good short fanfic in which Dukat was the one killed by Damar (I think he died shielding Ziyal from the phaser blast). Garak accompanied Ziyal to bury her father, and when they returned they annouced their engagement. That exchange between Garak and Kira from Sacrifice of Angels gets me every time:

Kira: She loved you.
Garak: I could never figure out why. *strokes her face* Now I suppose I never will.

*sniff sniff*
