That's not what I was referring to. A poster made a comment to the effect that consistency in storytelling didn't matter. I'd stopped thinking about Morrison by that point; I finished that conversation a couple of days ago, as far as I'm concerned. I was merely conveying my objections to the general philosophy implied in that post.

I realize that for you, Christopher, Batman taking up a gun and shooting Darkseid crosses some sort of line. I and Admiral Young have tried valiantly to explain to you what happened and why it happened, and we've both said that the best thing for you isn't to judge the story blindly but to read it for yourself. And to be frank, that disappoints me, that in spite of your own standards of truth and logic, you've chosen to rail against the idea on hearsay (though accurate hearsay) rather than educate yourself.

I freely admit that my feelings about guns are irrational. I've told you that I have a deeply personal reason for hating them. So please try to show me a little sensitivity. I'm still mourning my father's passing last month -- please don't browbeat me on an attitude that arises from my grief at a tragedy far earlier in my life. Please, please, just drop it and leave me alone.

If Batman has to sink to using Joe Chill's methods, then Batman becomes a failure.

I'm sure that the families of every single victim of the Joker will tell you that Batman has always been a failure.

Batman isn't a hero. He is a rich psychopath who gets his rocks off by playing games of cat and mouse with dangerous criminals and he doesn't really care who gets hurt by his playmates just so long as he gets to play with them.

He uses his absurdly strict moral code as a flimsy justification, but the fact of the matter is that if he got rid of his rouges gallery then he wouldn't be able to dress up like a bat and have fun anymore.

That's an interesting take...certainly not unique, I've heard it before many times from non Batman fans. Bruce failing at his mission and not upholding his oath to his parents to avenge them and make sure no one else suffers what he did is something that eats at him constantly. It is his very reason for existing. Bruce Wayne would be a waste of a man if he wasn't Batman. One could argue that it is his destiny to become Batman. Ultimately whatever view you have of him, the story of Batman is one of tragedy. Then again this isn't a Batman thread.

Oh, and this isn't comics, but I've just gotta mention it: The Warp 5 Limit in Star Trek.

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the assumption is that later starships like the Defiant & Voyager were outfitted with more advanced, environmentally friendly warp drives that could travel at higher speeds without damaging subspace.

Reading Geoff Johns' Green Lantern is like reading what Winston Smith would have written after his face almost got chewed off by rats.

I have no idea who Winston Smith is. And yet, this is one of the funniest things I've read on here in months. Proving once again that Myasishchev is the funniest TrekBBS poster ever! (Except for maybe MadBaggins, but he's unintentional.)

Personally, I prefer Batman stories where there's a difference between him and the villains he fights. Otherwise, what the hell's the point?
