Revisiting Stargate SG1...

I believe Higginson was sacked. That's why Weir had to be recast in her final appearance, the actress was tired of TPTB jerking her around.

I thought season 4 was far and away the weakest of the bunch. I barely remember Carter was ever on the show. Woolsey was much better as the boss of Atlantis. I wonder what it would've been like if they'd set up some kind of arrangement with Woolsey and Wier as co-administrators.

Why did Tory Higginson (Weir) leave? Did they want to replace her or did she want out?
The way I understand how things went down, Amanda Tapping had a year left on her contract and the producers weren't too happy with her wanting more character development for Weir or something, so they got rid of her.

^^What has been intimated by most of the principles involved is this...
The Stargate producers always handled each season (after the first 4) as if they would not get another. Well, SG1 season 10 started, the ratings were as solid as ever, and they let their guard down and assumed they'd be back for an eleventh. Amanda Tapping was the first re-signed for another year. Then Sci Fi caught them by surprise-they cancelled the show. The producers and studio then had a problem..they'd have to pay AT anyways, despite the network cutting them off. Instead of paying her for no work, they hatched the plan to move her to Atlantis, and adding her meant someone had to be voted off the island-err, city.
Tori got the boot in order to accommodate Tapping's addition.

I've always loved Carter as the one figuring things out, but that I've also come to like McCay and Zelenka and their chemistry between them and the other SGA characters. So I can see the dilemma. Thus it makes sense that Weir got yanked.

Carter's posting did feel like a stopgap measure and I think she was underutilized, but if she wasn't meant to continue beyond S4 then it's not surprising.

^^Sci Fi again threw yet another monkey wrench into that by picking up Sanctuary. Had they not, then odds are Amanda would have stayed for S5.

I doubt it, I suspect that her contract extension had more to do with her pregnacy which took her out of several season nine eps.

SG1 wouldn't be SG1 without O'Neil's sense of humour, and it would be worse for the loss.

The only thing that I found remotely irritating in regards to the cast was the way that Shanks left to 'do other stuff' but then later rejoined when the show moved to SyFy and they threw some extra cash his way. It wouldn't have been so bad had they not then completely fcuked over Corin Nemec and his character.

Amen...I got used to him and I always felt that the way they threw him under the glider and kissed Shanks ass (much as I liked him) was pretty crappy.

actually, season 4 has the best average rating of any season of any stargate show. i liked weir better as well, a bit of carter fatique perhaps after 200+ episodes with her, but was it not memorable how carter reprimanded the starfleet colonel for ridiculing rodney? have watched atlantis for the last weeks, and work trough voyager again at the moment, imo the woolsey character was quite a waste compared to the doctor.
