How Fast Do You Drive?

Easy question, do you have a lead foot or do you drive like a granny? When you drive, do you consider your fuel efficiency?

Last night my dad and I were talking, and when I drive at around 60mph, I'll get 320-340 miles to a tank, If I drive arond 70mph or faster, I might get around 280 miles to a tank, if I'm lucky. So I wondered about the driving habits of you folks.

I did drive fast many years ago but multiple tickets and all...I drive the speed limit now.

I'm fairly cautious on the local roads, not least because of the police, but also because i'm on a bike and car drivers have a nasty habit of pulling out in front of you.

When i'm on the motorway though i'll do 100mph all the way, faster if there's nobody about.

When i have someone in the car with me (daughter/husband etc) i drive like the little old lady from Pasadena.

When i am by myself and on local roads, speed limit. When i'm on the LIE (Li Expressway) or another big road i'm a motherfucker behind the wheel. LOOK OUT!

However, i do NOT put other people in danger. I don't drive crazy if there are others around me and i NEVER cut in and out. THOSE people should be shot!

I tend to drive too fast. However, as I've gotten older, I've gotten down to more reasonable speeds. Particularly when I'm driving with my daughter.

I'm trying to cut that back a bit, but it's too painful driving less than 50 on any reasonably smooth road and, generally, highways are wide open so there are few genuine safety concerns. I think I'll have to cut back on my speed once I get a second speeding ticket, though. Those would start to add up (even if everyone speeds).

On I-66, you're generally fine if you're not much over 70 even though the posted limit is 55, so long as you aren't weaving through traffic. Close in to DC you might want to stick to 65 though.

With few exceptions (like school zones, residential areas, and so forth) I go with the flow of traffic even if it's over the posted speed limit. I've yet to receive a speeding ticket as a result, and most people stick to within 10-15 MPH over the limit. It's safer and doesn't draw attention.

In my truck, with a 4 cylinder engine, I can comfortably cruise at 70 mph in the freeway, going 75 higher when I've let my mind wander a little.

in my grandma's old Toyota Echo, which has essentially become my second vehicle, I can easily go 80.

other driving: with the flow of traffic in the city, at most going 50 in a 45 zone. if I'm in a residential area, a 25 zone, I'm going at about 20.

^ I ride a 600cc Suzuki Bandit. It cruises nicely at 100mph, but starts to get a little shaky around 110.

I do 100 miles a day to and from work, mostly on the interstate.. They line the highway with cops between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, so I rarely go more than 5 or 10 mph over...

I get about 410 miles to a tank in my 2004 Vue...

On interstates that are posted at 65, I generally do about 62. I have seen so many instances of cops hiding in different spots and nailing people. Going slightly under means I never have to worry, and I don't mind all the folks passing me. To each his own. I will say that I don't really like to see semis going at 85 or so.

usually i dont drive faster than i'm supposed to. so around 110-130kph. i have no intention of loosing my license. this damn test period is so annoying. although i did pull 180kmh on a 25 year old motorbike a while back. i thought the damn thing would fall apart...

I had actually never seen a speed limit above 65 until a recent road trip to Kentucky via West Virginia.

To those who stay under the limit: just remember that if everyone is passing you, you're creating a hazard. It's safest to stick with the speed of traffic in most cases.

I usually go with the speed of traffic on the freeways (which, around here, is about5-10 miles above the limit) and on side streets, I stick to the speed limit. I'm a fairly cautious driver, as I tend to always leave early so I don't have to drive like a maniac to get where I'm going.

Well, that and the fact that I was born without any sense of direction. I always allot myself extra time, in case I lost. I have to get maps for every trip I take alone. It's truly sad.

I have a difficult time following speed limits... I'm anywhere from 5-15 MPH above the posted limits. In my experience, cops seem happy to let you speed a bit so long as you aren't driving ridiculously fast and aren't driving recklessly. Typically, if the flow of traffic is moving faster than the limit than no one cares.
