The jumping bull...sympathy?

Just wondered...when you hear in the news things like yesterday, with the spanish bull jumping inside the onlookers and hurting quite a few of them...do you feel sympathy for the people?

I feel like shouting "Yes, good bull!" to the bull and not really feel any sympathy for the people who got hurt (well maybe a bit for the boy, because he is still a child and maybe got dragged their to watch by his family or such), but for the adults...nope, not at all.
The only one I feel sympathy for is the bull.

Well one area allready got rid of the bull fighting. Hope the rest of Spain will follow that good example.

Though I wonder, am I heartless, not to feel sympathy for the people? I mean I can imagine that is was a shock, when the bull jumped up...and that is surly was painful too and all...but they choosed to go there and watch this torture of the bull. The bull just gave them a bit of what the poor thing as to go through himself. Fear and pain.
Maybe now they thing twice, before wanting to watch this brutal "show" again.

Yes, I would feel sympathy for them; at least as much as you can for people you don't know. Just because people are spectators to something I strongly disagree with doesn't mean I want to see any harm come to them.

Nor are the spectators bad people deserving of such a fate. In Spain much of the country has a different perspective on it then people here and elsewhere do. Some people check it out out of curiosity or are ignorant about what happens to the bull until they see it in person.

I guess i'm evil. I mean, i feel bad that they got hurt (especially children) but part of me thinks "You shouldn't have been there to witness a bull being tortured for sport!!!"

I wonder how many people here who condemn bullfighting spectators have ever gone fishing for sport, though.

I'm sorry that people ended up being injured--but I do think that it was reckless and what amounts to a self-inflicted injury. They should have known better...they played with fire and they got burned.

(As for fishing, I think you should eat what you catch. Catch and release is an unnecessary act of cruelty.)

I agree....but since we're wishing, I'd prefer the bull only hurt men and leave the women and kids out of it.

Because adult women aren't capable of making intelligent choices of their own free will, or because men are more expendable then women and it's okay for them to be maimed? Not looking like too wise a comment, either way.

Because I don't like to see women or children get hurt.
Your comment didn't look wise at all.

Well, you were trying to put words in my mouth.
I gave you a succinct answer because you were reading too much into my post.

His question is, for the purposes of these feelings, what's the difference between men and women? Both chose to watch the bullfight. Children, clearly, might not be able to comprehend the significance of what's happening and possibly didn't even choose to go to the event. Women are just as culpable as men in this regard, however, so why is it OK to wish for men to get hurt but not the women?

I'll say it again for the cheap seats: I DON'T LIKE TO SEE WOMEN GET HURT!
And guys, instead of leaning on "Why is it OK for the men to get hurt but not the women?" go for the more logical and easily defensible "Why do you want anyone to get hurt at all?"

Why shouldn't we lean on that? To say that you don't like to see women get hurt, logically implies that you wouldn't mind it if it was men. You should have said from the get-go that you don't like to see anyone hurt. You qualified your own statement.

People were getting hurt, I'd prefer it not be women or children at all. So yes, I'd prefer it be men if it has to happen because I don't want to see women or children get hurt.

Hate to be the peacemaker here, but we all hate to see ANYONE get hurt, agreed? Let's not get lost over trivia. The picture of hurt children is very disturbing though, must push some evolutionary button.

Still the whole torero-thing is horrible in my eyes. Should not happen in the first place.
