Matt Smith, the actor, does nothing for me---probably because I'm old enough to be his mother. But I do find him interesting to watch. He's a bit like Tom Baker, in that I find him physically very odd but he has a good presence and his Doctor very appealing.
I'm glad he's going to stay around awhile (despite all the ridiculous rumors). I want to see where his Doctor will go and how he might develop.
Hey I'm probably old enough to be Karen's father and that doesn't stop me admiring
I am only a good 11 years older then Karen, and Boy I would like to do more then admire her.... Naughty thoughts aside, I am thinking hot tub, sweet wine, and Jammy Dodgers!

I really hope this idea of Smith leaving is BS, I've seen as well a lot of Moffatt's only doing two years rumours as well and I similarly hope they're bull too.
here, here.. I too hope this is only a rumour, and I love the direction, writing and presence the Moff and Smith bring to the show.. they add weight and dimension to the character, that wasn't exactly lacking in the Tennant and Eccleston years, but wasn't prominent either..Smith puts the scif fi back and pulls out some of the overly done emotional doctor trauma.. though you could examine the 9th and 10th doctor from a psychological profile on healing and loss..(which explains the shouting)

If for no other reason than it's hard to see who the nexty show runner would be, and much as I would have pitied the fool who followed Tennant, I now really would pity the guy who had to play 12.
I agree, though some part of me wishes the gentleman who played in "the next doctor" would have been saved for 12.. he was brilliant and would have been brilliant as the 12th Doc!

That said I wouldn't want Smith to hang around as long as Tom, he was the Doctor too long. 3 or 4 years is optimum for a Doctor I think.
see here I disagree, I would have preferred Tennant hang around for another 3 seasons.. I think that 6 seasons of a doctor is perfect, though I am coming from the American Perspective where it's like 10 years of a character is appropriate for great successful seasons..though if you take the 10 and do an average of the popularity of the character, and fan interest and ratings, you come out somewhere at 6 years as optimal, I read an article on this subject some nights ago..
anyhow, I think that if we get Matt for the 3 years mandatory and he opts in for the other 2, that would be fantastic! Add in 1 more year to tie up any loose ends, and such, and give Moff his dream projects and what ever, a few more specials, And we would probably have a magnificent Who season to rival all others..
Then I would love to see that repeated for another 2 more docs..13 is going to be a doosey since he is the last regen..(I wonder how they will give him more regens, or if the series finally dies by then??)
