MATT SMITH is ready to quit Doctor Who to make it in Hollywood

Dusty Ayres

Commodore
MATT SMITH is ready to quit as Doctor Who as early as next year - to crack Hollywood.
Matt, 27, has told pals he wants to go after just two series of the BBC1 sci-fi show so he can try his hand at movies. The actor is currently filming this year's Christmas special with Karen Gillan, who plays his sidekick Amy Pond, and opera star Katherine Jenkins.
He will then go straight into production on the new series, which will air next year.
But a pal said: "Matt plans to quit after the next series.
"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."
His Doctor Who exit would disappoint fans after he made a promising start as David Tennant's successor.
It would also shock BBC bosses, who had hoped that the younger actor would stay longer than the three series that Tennant did.

It's the Sun.

I certainly hope Matt Smith is smarter than this. He's got a great gig, everyone is going to know who he is for a very long time. This will be a part of his life forever. Take advantage of the best parts of it while you can.

The grass is usually not greener on the other side. He could end up going to Hollywood, falling flat on his face, and wishing he had his old gig back.

While I definately consider this story bullshit, this part of the article did cause me to raise an eyebrow:

They make it seem as though Tennant only doing three seasons was odd, however with the excpetions of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, none of the Doctors have gone beyond three seasons, unless you count the two serials of the fourth season William Hartnell did. Indeed, most British shows don't last longer than three seasons anyway, so why should anyone be surprised if Matt Smith backs out after that, or why it is odd that David Tennant did.

So regenerate him. Big whoop.

It's not like Tennant is leaving again.

Wait... can he regenerate back into Tennant?

:)

I hope not. I feel like Smith is them rewarding me for putting up with Tennant's inane shouting for so long.

Like Tennant. He did not have much luck with his US Pilot.

Actors jumping ship because they think the grass is greener happens all the time. They usually find out quite quickly it isn't.

As for Smith having a five year contract, that's the impression I was under as well. But then again I've no clue how ironclad those contracts are and whether or not there's an out clause.

Yeah I saw this a couple of months ago and dismissed this due to it being in the Sun. How do we know the length of his contract? I've never come across anything discussing it before.

Was a happy day for me! :techman:

If that happened I'd stop watching Doctor Who forever.

Well put! :guffaw:

Yeah, we debunked this rumor last month.

Mr Smith's contract as the 11th Doctor Who ties him into the show for three years, with the option of two further years...

Amen, brother! When Eccleston left, I was sad because I thought he had more stories to tell. Then I saw Tennant in "The Christmas Invasion" and instantly forgot about Eccleston... for a time... By the time we got to "The End of Time," I couldn't wait for the hammy frakker to leave, even though I had some initial reservations about Smith. But he made a pretty good impression in "The Eleventh Hour," I was totally sold by "Vampires of Venice," and by "The Big Bang" I was so totally in love with him & all his eccentricities that I even wept for the fez.

I think there's a great chemistry on the TARDIS right now with the 11th Doctor, Amy, & Rory. I'm really hoping that doesn't change anytime soon. But I suppose it will in some way regardless.:( I can only think of 2 or 3 Doctor/companion combinations that lasted more than a couple years: 3rd Doctor/Jo Grant, 4th Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith, & maybe 7th Doctor/Ace.

Cartainly MacLean Stevenson, Shelly Long, David Caruso, & Chris Noth could provide us with some cautionary tales (although Caruso & Noth did pretty well once they came to their senses and went back to being TV cops again).

ah so he has to play the good ole doc for another 2 years.. nice.. and optional 2 more, let's hope he takes the optional and gets the full payment, then he can rent a nice flat in the US and try to get his hollywood career off the ground..

and we can at least have 5 years of goodness to revel in..:techman:
