The X-Files Rewatch Thread

I've got all nine seasons on DVD, and usually every couple of years I go through the series again. I also like doing that with SG1 as well. This is making me want to start going through X-Files again. I think this would be about the 4th time though, and some episodes just aren't worth a 4th watching.

I'm with ya. While I absolutely loved the show, some episodes were definitely one time watchers. There are quite a few though that I could watch over and over again.

And the Samantha clone confusion starts. Two very good episodes though.

Only B for Beyond the Sea?! :wtf: You can't be serious. It's one of the all-time best episodes not just of The X-Files - of TV drama, ever. I recently rewatched it again and was once more blown away by the sheer perfection of this episode.

Wow. You're at almost the exact same spot as me now. :D Last I checked, you were at the end of season 2, and I was about to watch "Nisei". I only watch like two or three episodes a week and skip ones I don't like, but I still thought it would take you awhile to reach mid season 3 and by then I'd be onto season 4. With your marathon watching, we're now in the same area of re-watching. Neato.

Isn't that 'train two parter' awesome? I love how badass Steven McHattie was...when you see only his hand against the glass as he kicks the hell out of Muldur - it was almost like an evil version of the hand visual from "Titanic". Next up for me - "Pusher", featuring my favourite 'two-shot villain' next to Eugene Victor Toombs.
Nisei/731 is among my favorite Mythology episodes, and at the time, I loved the Mythology episodes. They were so much better when the whole aliens issues was still ambiguous and mysterious. But back then, it seemed like the story was going somewhere. Little did I know how much Carter will screw up the story in later seasons, when he tried to resolve it even though he had never had an idea how.

Since you've stopped describing the episodes or why you've rated them as you have, this thread has lost its appeal.

Sorry. I didn't think anybody was really paying that close of attention anyway.

I'm gonna finish Season 3 tonight, so I'm going to talk about everything some more tomorrow. Got a lot to say about this overall season, actually.

You'll find a lot more people read (and enjoy) these kinds of threads than comment in them. I know that can be pretty disheartening but if you're getting any responses at all you can be sure quite a few people are paying attention. You have nearly 750 views.

I've been glancing in. And disagreeing with some people's posts (I liked the finale of the show- didn't love it but liked it).

Season 3 was another mixed bag for me, but that's to be expected. Most shows have their great episodes and ones that you can hardly stomach. I really enjoyed all the mythology episodes and the involvement of Mulder's family in the overall plot.

This season had some real duds in it. The List, The Walk, and Hell Money all bored me to tears. I think Hell Money is actually the worst episode of the first three seasons. It's kind of cool in concept, but they couldn't make it interesting.

Talitha Cumi has the best cliffhanger ever. I was literally on the edge of my seat never having seen this episode.

Scully's dog appeared in a grand total of three episodes. That was the most important arc, obviously.

Personally I found the mythology to be so confusingly monolithic that I preferred the MOTW episodes.

Season 4

Herrenvolk [A] - good follup to the third season. I always enjoy the mytharc stories more, and this didn't disappoint.

Home - I'm kind of indifferent to this one. I've heard it called among the best (and worst) of the series. It's a weird episode, but it's just kind of there. Probably not an episode I'll ponder over anytime soon.

Teliko [F] - It's just boring. Very boring. Very, very boring. The worst of the series so far.

Unruhe [B-] It could have been better. I remember liking it more the first time I watched it. I don't think a lot of it is very clear.

The Field Where I Died [D] - Overly melodramatic crap. I thought this was going to be a good episode based on the first couple of scenes, but it really isn't.

Sanguinarium [F] - Another very boring episode. Also, very unbelievable. Nobody bothered to at least TRY and shut down this plastic surgery center while people were dying left and right?

Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man - This is another one I remember being a lot better the first time I watched it. The fact that all this may or may not be true is very odd. I would have preffered something clear cut. It's still a good episode, though.

Hell Money was kinda blah. i always fall asleep during it when i sit down to rewatch the season. i always found Talitha Cumi to be the weakest cliffhanger.

Very opinion-dividing episode. Personally I love it, though I can understand why some people might hate it. I'd call it one of the two most divisive XF episodes among the fanbase.

I think Home is one of the best episodes of The X--Files ever, and one of the best and scariest hours of horror I've ever seen.

Tunguska/Terma [C] - as far as mythology episodes go, these are very weak episodes. There's really not much to say, because for a two-parter - nothing actually really ever happened.

Paper Hearts [A] - GREAT episode. Just as good as the first couple of times I watched it. Somehow this guy has gotten into Mulder's head, and the hearts are just creepy. It's really unnerving.

El Mundo Gira [C] - Not a very good episode either. Just couldn't really hold my attention.

Leonard Betts - Pretty good episode. I love seeing Scully get rattled. Some of the FX was weak though, especially when we see one head coming out of the other.

Never Again - a very weird episode, that's for sure. Scully going towards the dark side temporarily was entertaining.

Memento Mori - as a whole, not a great episode, but the Mulder/Scully stuff is good.

Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man has plenty of good ideas, and a few essential scenes (Cancer Man and Deep Throat; Cancer Man's Box of Chocolates monologue at the end), but the ending sure is odd. I would have preferred to learn one true thing about the character than a whole slew of things that are probably lies.

I think you're being a little short on Tunguska and Terma, though. Mulder being experimented on with the Black Oil and Krycheck having his arm cut off aren't events that are going to go away. Plus, it's nice to have the international scope that allows the show to incorporate the Tunguska event into its mythology.

Why is it so divisive and what is the other most divisive episode?

I guess the reason is that it's unusual - it doesn't follow the usual pattern of an X-File. Obviously it's paranormal subject matter, but not handled in the way other XF episodes are. It takes on a personal dimension for Mulder, and I guess some people find this interesting, but others don't. It does come across as a very divisive episode as fans either really like it or really hate it.

The other episode is "Post Modern Prometheus" from S5, a black-and-white episode involving Cher and a "frankenstein" character. Opinion from fans in general is similarily divided. For what it's worth, I don't like it at all.
