Bedside Manner

If you're rushed to sickbay and end up being treated by one of Star Trek's doctors, which one do you think would actually have the best bedside manner?

Actually, I think it would be Phlox. He has a nice, calming demeanor about him.

Crusher would be so patronizingly maternal that I think I'd have to hurt someone.

McCoy would just be a bit too cantankerous for my taste.

Bashier, would be just a bit too sure of himself and superior.

The Doctor would be a whole lot too sure of himself and superior.

Yes, they're all highly skilled, but I think personality-wise, Phlox would be more to my liking. Your thoughts?

If I could choose to be treated by any of Star Trek's doctors, it would probably be McCoy. In fact, my internist has a personality much like his. McCoy seems like the kind of doctor who'd apply good old common sense as well as medical expertise, wouldn't prescribe unnecessary drugs or treatments, and would appreciate a good joke.

Boyce!

For those saying McCoy, I think a distinction needs to be made between Kelley-McCoy and Urban-McCoy, since they have very different mannerisms.

Well, at least we know Boyce mixes a good Martini.

Certainly one of the most important qualities in a doctor.

As much as Abrams et al. enjoyed making “Easter eggs” in the film for loyal fans, they missed an obvious one: When the Enterprise’s CMO was killed offscreen and McCoy became the new CMO, the dead CMO should have been Boyce.

McCoy. Maybe because I was raised on TOS, I would trust him the most.

Then what happened to Dr. Piper (Paul Fix) from WNMHGB? Does he not exist in the film's alternate timeline?

Bashir. He was always friendly toward his patients, without patronising and moods.

I agree...while Bashir was arrogant when he wanted a date, or when talking about his research, he came across as anything but when he was with patients. He actually struck me as very caring. He recognized when it was NOT appropriate to be berating patients--even when their own accidents and bad decisions put them into the infirmary (like McCoy and the EMH), and he actually struck me as quite gentle and reassuring with the patients. As far as his actual caliber as a physician, I thought he was very, very capable in that regard as well.

I wouldn’t complain about the dead CMO being Piper, though I would prefer Boyce because he’s a more interesting character. Piper’s pretty dull.

As for Piper existing in the Nu timeline, he presumably does exist but doesn’t serve as CMO of NuEnterprise. The film (Nu2258) takes place well before the Prime timeline’s five-year mission (2265’), which is when Piper’ serves on Enterprise’.

No way would I let Bashir tinker with my insides. I don’t trust Augments! ;)

y'know it's funny. At first Phlox was probably my LEAST favorite of them all because I didn't like how he looked...dumb I know but was just first impressions.

after watching Enterprise (well the 1st 3 seasons..haven't gotten into 4th yet) he's now my favorite for just the OP's reasoning..he's calm, collective and has a real laid back demeanor.

Dr. Pulaski is my choice. She is dedicated to her patients and backs it up with 24th century medicine.

McCoy, cause I like his personality and style, or the Voyager's EMH cause, well he can cure just about anything heh.

Boyce showed promise but we did not get to him well enough and he might have turned out to be a alcoholic.

Of the rest I like Phlox's bedside manner best so long as he leaves those leeches in their jar.
