THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Yes, how dare you express a thought that came to mind on the topic at hand.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

LOL...I didn't it mean it that way it just seemed the poster was saying that for some reason the Avengers movie would show case that Hulk and Iron Man were more powerful than a god. Not to mention the other characters strengths wasn't even what we were discussing.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Strength class at Marvel has always been Hulk 1st and Thor 2nd. It is afterall why Iron Man has to have special suits if he has to combat them one-on-one. The Thorbuster armor was powered by an Asgardian crystal to help in the absorption of the godly power Thor could toss his way. This suit was destroyed last I knew. As have each version of the Hulkbuster armors.

I can't imagine the Avengers movie would try to show normal Iron Man armor as stronger than Thor or Hulk.
By the end of the movie Thor will have once again retained all his godly power that he is lacking in the footage we've seen from ComicCon.

I wonder about that.

Might it be that Thor proves himself "worthy" but is still on "probation" vis a vis Asgard, and is therefore only allowed a small portion of his usual majesty while visiting Earth?

No reason to think this whatsoever, except that it would help "ground" the character more. I love Thor, but it must be hard to write fiction with a GOD as your protagonist.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

It's possible that Thor might not be fully powered up at the end of the movie but indeed proves himself worthy enough to at least be granted his status as God of Thunder and the footage did show him with Mjinor. Yeah I just found it strange why a movie would bother to compare each character's strength stats. I apologize if I came across as harsh...I still blame the heat wave in Vancouver.

Re: Chaos
I guess that's possible. I wouldn't rule it out I was just stating where I *thought* the story might go.

Writing for someone with or who is a god has been a complaint of Superman afterall for the longest.

Maybe they'll hit Thor with the Nerf bat come Avengers time.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Kenneth Branagh while doing an interview for Wallander had a one sentence mention of what it is he is taking time out for to conduct this interview.
...Kenneth Branagh was taking time out to answer some press questions in support of the show, he would not be able to stay after the presentation for any follow-ups, as he is currently very busy prepping for a studio screening tonight of his latest directorial effort, the epic Marvel Comics feature film Thor, which hits theaters on May 20, 2011.

Wonder how long that prep will take before Kevin Friege and Marvel Studios will have a rough cut of the film for viewing?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I was looking at a library copy of an Avengers collection that retold the series up to the new Avengers with Hawkeye etc. Basically it just redrew the issues in a few panels. (For some reason it didn't bother to draw the Enchantress, the Executioner and Power Man, despite a dialogue reference to the Enchantress.) There was a lot of additional material revisiting the emo, particularly Captain America guilt over Bucky Barnes dying and wanting to kill Zemo.

But the relevant stuff here is the revisted Thor material. First, there was a bunch of stuff about snotting off to Thor about not being an Asgardian. This didn't make any sense, inasmuch as there were no alternative explanations. Thor always worked better for me when he was in Asgard or at least off Earth. Does the movie plan to just show Thor as an Asgardian or does it plan to revive disbelief in Thor for "conflict?"

Even more important, I got a refresher dose in Thor speak. It really is true that you tend to forget unpleasant things. If Thor in the movie talks like this, the movie will be unbearable. If they must try to do archaic, the scriptwriters should look at something like the Viking sagas or James Blish's Dr. Mirabilis for a clue. Does the movie intend to give us the dreadful faux mediaeval dialogue?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

No, from what dialog we have heard, he's speaking normally, just with an accent. Although I really hope they at least have him say "I say thee nay!" ONCE! I mean, c'mon... the goofy speech patterns is what made him interesting. I'm not expecting him to go "I doth be Thor, the Odinson! God of Thunder and smiter of frost giants and SHIELD Agents!"

Now they always COULD have another character speak that faux archaic and have Thor roll his eyes and go "I can't understand a word you're saying." Although, I'm curious if the hammer is going to have the inscription "He who be worthy..." on the Hammer itself, or if they'll just have Odin's voice over say it instead.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

If M.C. Hammer doesn't do the theme song then all will be lost with this film.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

^ LOL...and yeah the one dude I've forgotten his name already seems like a HUGE Thor fan which is a good thing. Always good as far as I'm concerned to have people involved with the creative process of a film who are fans of the subject matter. Means they care just that little bit more.

He'll probably make a jab at the dialogue

"Doth THIS!"

Brings the hammer down

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I'm a bit surprised to hear the word 'silly' being used for this movie. Nothing in that clip looks silly. Silly is Dinner for Schmucks. Silly was Jonah Hex and I was lobbying for that film. THOR looks bad ass, not silly.

We saw very little, it appears, of what happens after Thor gets his hammer. Saw a brief second or so of him tossing the hammer in full armor and about as long clashing with Loki. So much yet to see for this movie. A 5min clip is still only what, 1/40th or so of the movie?

I agree. If you think this looks silly, you likely think the comic and the character is silly, and probably most other comic book movies too.
