The looped universe made me think of this exchange from an older episode:
Fry said:
Some Dude Who Just Awoke from Cryo Sleep said:
Oh, well, I wanted to meet Shakespeare and I figured that time was cyclical.
Nope. Straight line!
I'd say Fry's ignorance screwed the guy, but I suppose sitting in a Cryotube won't get you through the big bang anyway!

Yeah, I thought of that too. They even had a quick flash with Fry and the 80s Guy whilst they were traveling forward through time this recent ep.

Well, it's not a contradiction, because as far as Fry or anyone else knew at that point, time did go in a straight line. They didn't discover it was cyclical until this episode. Similarly to how in one episode, they said that our universe and the cowboy-hat universe were the only two, but then later on, the Professor's invention created a whole succession of other parallel universes. Not a contradiction, just an evolution of knowledge.

It seems like they've replayed that last ep more than normal, so I've seen it about 6 times now. My favorite part is definitely the "In the Year 2525" song parody. Cracks me up every time.

Tonight's ep will have a hard time following that one, but bring it on! :techman:

Just want to jump in here and say i'm loving this new series more than I expected. It's stronger than ever.

From the previews, I wasn't expecting much from "That Darn Katz!," but it turned out to be one of the funniest ones yet. Lots of great gags, and a treatment of the cats that was a lot funnier than I expected because it was truer to real cat behavior than I expected.

Plus I love it that this show actually allows growth and change. Nibbler is now officially "out," Amy now has a doctorate, and the freaking Earth is spinning backwards! I love that ending, Amy's realization that it didn't matter whether the Earth spun the "right" way or not. Although I'm sure it would make a difference to atmospheric and ocean circulation and the change would cause all sorts of disasters. But then, realistically, stopping the Earth's rotation would've melted its crust.

Still, despite the poetic license, it's cool how much actual science there was here. Conservation of momentum was acknowledged, albeit inconsistently and subject to Rule of Funny. So was conservation of energy -- the extraction of magnetic energy from the Earth's rotation resulting in a loss of angular momentum and the slowing of the Earth. (Amy's thesis was actually a flawed idea, because she failed to take that into account and claimed the Earth would be essentially a perpetual generator.)

I love the continuity too. The magma pit under Planet Express is still there. Plus we get to see Mars University and Nibbler's ship again.

All in all, the last three weeks have been quite strong, and have done a lot to dispel early concerns that the show might not "have it" anymore. I hope it means they've gotten their second wind now and will continue on this level.

"That Darn Katz!"

Lots of typical cat jokes.

Pretty funny all-in-all. Amy's not so dumb. Wonder if they'll mention Earth's new direction again?

Fry dancing with Bender instead of Leela? Who mentions she doesn't have a man? After last week, that's a head scratcher. But no biggie since they were all drunk anyway.

I missed the movie (?) where Nibbler revealed himself to Leela and company.

One of those puppets used by dogs but for a cat!

They reran Fry's petrified dog episode afterward, which had a see-and-say joke in it, too. (Robo-Puppy mistreatment alert still cracks me up.)

Yeah, except nobody said it was a contradiction. But congratulations on winning an argument against nobody in particular :bolian:

Anyway, the cat episode was back down to the level of the rest of the season. Not as good as the original run, but at least it hasn't descended into Simpsons-level tripe.

The 'cats being cats' jokes were somewhat funny, but it's not quite at the level of 'Brian being a dog' jokes on Family Guy. I guess since they don't have to compress all those jokes into one episode, when they randomly throw one at you it hits harder, since he's gone however many episodes acting almost completely human.

Another good episode! I love you Futurama.

They also used the lava pit in the episode where they regressed into teenagers, I believe.

The cavern with the lava pit was integral to the plot of "Bender's Big Score" even though we never saw it in the movie.

^That's right. The "basement" was where Bender hid out for a thousand years to make his return trip to the 31st century each time.

Loved all the cat humor in this one.

For some reason the "This calls for a celebration!" bit on their home planet had me in stitches.

I also caught that there was one "blink and you miss it" reference to lolcats. I was a bit afraid they might overdo that meme since it's topical but they barely touched on it.

^ I caught that one as well. Mind you they did have that 'cash for bones' fake ad at the start so I'm keeping my eyes out for any meerkats that may turn up in the future.
