TOS Purist

Commander
Red Shirt
I figured it would be cool if all the TOS purists of the forum made themselves known to each other. I'd certainly like to know how many people here are purists...our numbers are few, and its sometimes nice to know that you aren't the only one. At least it is for me, lol.

And just to clear things up...by "TOS purist," I mean someone who doesn't consider any other form of "official" Star Trek (other than the TOS episodes and the two pilots) as canon Star Trek. :techman:

And just to clear things up further...if you're NOT a TOS purist, please don't bother posting in this thread.

I'm just making sure!! And I know about some of you guys, but I'd like to have a definite list of all of my fellow TOS purists. :D

I suppose I'd call myself a semi-purist. I consider the two TV pilots, the original series, and the TOS-cast movies to be canon. Except for Star Trek V. That one I explain away as Kirk's dream after drinking himself into a stupor on Romulan ale.

When ST:TNG made its TV debut, I wanted to like it. I really, REALLY wanted to like it. I tried. God knows how I tried.

But . . . it just wasn't Star Trek.

Well the reason I like star trek is because I've always been hooked on TOS loved it as a child I,m only 34 reruns in the uk but I loved it some much I've watched all the episodes million times and I still watch TOS now it's my favourite. ?

So do I pass as a TOS purist !!!!! Lol

I'm definitely a purist. However, I consider all of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and all the movies, yes, even STV, (except STXI) to be part of the canon Star Trek universe. I'd like to consider ENT as canon, but I just can't. There are too many stupid continuity screwups for it to be part of the same univers, IMO. And STXI is more like one of those "what if" Elseworlds issues from DC comics. It was fun to theorize what would have happened if...this, that, or the other. But it's not part of the "real" Star Trek universe. It's just fluff.

I love all Star Trek from TOS to JJ. I regularly watch episodes and movies from all era's - I just adore losing myself in the Trek universe, a constant source of pleasure, enjoyment and escape from daily stress, pressure and (sometimes) shitty reality. However, in a "desert island discs" type situation I would not have even a Planck time of hesitation in choosing TOS over any other incarnation. I've just finished re-watching the series for the umpteenth time - the re-mastered versions on Blu-ray - and it never ceases to amaze me how much I truly love the show after 26 years of mega-fandom on my part.

I see people still have problems with the meaning of the word "canon".

I know what you mean; the true meaning of Canon is plain and obvious...

The scene in "The Cage" from about 3:15 to 3:20 is the only Trek that I accept in my personnel cannon (this is the scene where the two lost teenagers are strolling down the corridor, apparently searching for the ship's tiki bar)..... everything that came after the great potential represented by that scene has been a disappointment.

Actually, although I have a great fondness for TOS that none of the other series and movies could ever supplant, I have (in general) enjoyed all the other explorations into the Trek Universe (except maybe Star Trek V.... *woof*). I hope that you get other, more useful/helpful responses to your question, TOS Purist!

Not exactly a purist.

Star Trek is by far my favorite incarnation of the franchise. But, from time to time, I do find other pieces of the franchise I enjoy to one degree or another.

Purity groups make me nervous. It's like something Melakon would come up with. :shifty:

Nice reference. :techman:

But don't think of this as a "purity group"...think of it more as a "support group."

And a place where non-purists are posting anyway, despite me kindly asking that only TOS purists post here...

Not sure you'll find anyone as pure as what you're looking for. Even Warped9 and Captain Robert April like some of the other stuff I believe.

Who fucking cares?

I've been watching Star Trek since it premiered on NBC. This looks like someone's spoiling for a good game of "Let's You And Him Fight," and I may pass on this go-around.

They both like TAS, if I recall.

I know Warped9 likes at least a little bit of The Next Generation and I believe the same of CRA. But I'll let them speak for themselves.

But I'm not sure there is a anyone that matches the original posters definition of 'purist'.
