What's your birth story?

God, I am OLD....
oldx.gif

I was born between the last appearance of Troughton (War Games) and the first appearance of Pertwee (Spearhead in Space).
Oh hush you young whippersnapper. :p

I was 5 days short of 11 months old when "An Unearthly Child" made its debut. I've never seen the first three Doctors though, just Tom Baker onward. With one TV in the house and parents who were not SciFi fans, every episode I watched was a hard won battle.

It's a bit hard for me to tell, exactly.

If we are going by UK airdates, then it was sometime between Pertwee's first season and the second, so somewhere between Inferno & Terror of the Autons. Did they re-run Doctor Who over there in 1970 after the first season ended? If so it was probably a repeat of the 6th or 7th season.

Going by Australian airdates is even more difficult, as I don't have a list of them for ABC in 1970. I can tell you that during that year, the ABC was repeating Troughton's 5th & 6th Seasons (I don't think season 7 hit our shores until 1972/73). I'd like to think it was something like Tomb of the Cybermen or Fury from the Deep, but it was probably The Space Pirates knowing my luck.

Of course I was too young to even know the show then. My first memory of Doctor Who was Spearhead from Space. I can tell you that it scared the absolute bejeezus out of me (seriously!).

Inferno episode 7 is nearest to my birthday. Christ I feel old.

So we are roughly the same age! :techman:

I was born between the summer between "The Armageddon Factor" and "Destiny of the Daleks."

That said, I didn't really get in to Doctor Who until maybe about two years ago when some friends of mine introduced me to the Tennant series.

I had the same thought :)

I'm still not certain what my first recollection of Who is. I have a vague rememberance of Pertwee, and a cellar or dungeon and possibly a spider? I did always wonder if this was Planet of the Spiders (which I've never seen) but the dungeon could be the Time Warrior I guess. I can't have been any older than 3 1/2 at the time though, unless it was a repeat?

I was born 2 months before Spearhead from Space but the first I can remember watching was Planet of the Spiders. When I was about 4 and a half.

Definitely sounds like POTS to me. They go into the cellar in that old mansion(the 'baddies'), sit in a circle and start that buddhist chant ('Omm-something-something') and then one of the giant spiders materializes as the chant reaches fever pitch.

Sound familiar? I'll have a look around on youtube for the clip..

ETA - Here we go. Try http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x809ix_planet-of-the-spiders3

About 2:37 to the end. Watching that brings back how sinister in tone that story is..

Cool thanks for that! That cellar definitely looks familiar. I guess one could say most cellars look alike, but even the angle the door is shot from as they come through it looks how I remember it! Hurrah, officially POTS might well be my first Doctor Who :guffaw:

For me it's roughly half way between "The Daemons" and "Day of the Daleks".

My earliest clear visual memory is Sarah Jane leaving in "The Hand of Fear".

I also vaguely remember seeing a Sontaran which might have been from "The Sontaran Experiment" but I could be getting that mixed up with "The Invasion of Time".

I prefer to think of it as wiser and more experienced. :o

Oh man, another old-timer here. Was born about a year and a month before An Unearthly Child.

Didn't see my first episode until 1980.
