Pure Frustration

I've been sitting here for about thirty minutes now trying to thread a needle so I can do some repairs on my work pants. But either the eye of the needle is just too small, or my fingers are too fat and un-dextrous. For such a small task, I can't think of anything more frustrating.

So what about you guys? Any needle-threading tips? And what small things get frustrate the heck out of you?

I've threaded needles on occasion, when my wife couldn't do it. My fingers are narrow and dextrous. But I couldn't tie my shoes until I was 8, so figure that one out...

I get frustrated when my belt gets twisted as I'm trying to thread it through the loops. It's such a pain in the ass.

MetalPants, it won't help you now, but for the future, there are these great little needle threader doohickies you can find in any fabric or craft store. They usually come in a travel case of needles and thread. They make it super easy to thread a needle.

As for me, one of the most frustrating things these days is entering a room and then forgetting what i went in there for. It's happening a little too often for comfort.

You can buy a little gizmo which is a little folded wire that you poke through the eye of the needle, then you push the thread through the wire (it unfolds to a wider hole which is much easier to thread) and then pull the gizmo back again and your needle is threaded.


I don't know what the gizmo is called (other than a needle threader) but they must be available in the US - quite often in those little emergency mending kits they sell.

Don't sweat it babe, it happens to me alot too. It's called aging. Of course, my cerebral palsy was caused by slight brain damage at birth (go ahead guys, give me your best shot), so for me, that plays into it too.

Oh well, at least we're still young at heart, huh?

I you ever lose the little thread gizzmo...run the end of the thread over a candle a couple of times to coat it in a bit of wax. Then when you get it through, cut the waxed part off.

The "goober and poke" method, as I like to call it, takes a lot of practice. I don't remember not having a needle and thread in my hands but I have a needle threader somewhere because some days I can't get it right, either. It's frustrating, but don't let it beat you.
