Spock's wife.

Did they ever explain why Spock was cheating on his wife with Uhura?

I don't think Sock was quite married... but obviously spoken for.

From Amok Time:

SPOCK: By our parents' arrangement. A ceremony while we were but seven years of age. Less than a marriage but more than a betrothal. One touches the other in order to feel each other's thoughts. In this way our minds were locked together, so that at the proper time, we would both be drawn to Koon-ut-kal-if-fee.

In TOS: Amok Time, we learn Spock is married to T'Pring. Vulcans are married as children. Of course we also learn that she is seeing Stonn. This is in 2267.

Spock wasn't ever "married" to T'Pring, merely betrothed (via a mindlink) to her as a child, in a parent-organised arrangement - ceremony-yet-to-occur - that was finally supposed to happen in "Amok Time".

In the new timeline, which changed radically when the Kelvin was destroyed, perhaps T'Pring was never mind-linked to Spock when they were children. Maybe one of her parents was killed on the Kelvin and she was never born? Or maybe this T'Pring knows about Spock's interest in Uhura via the mindlink - and that's what made her take up with Stonn, even in the Prime Universe?

Remember that Spock Prime had a romantic interest, of some level, with Leila Kalomi (TOS) even though he was betrothed to T'Pring.

Spock was betrothed age seven. The universes split when Spock was three. No guarentee it happened to Spock in this timeline.

After a time, he may have found that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting.

Even if T'Pring had never been born, he would have been joined with someone. I'm guessing Uhura is serving the same purpose as Leila.

It's Vulcan tradition. I seriously doubt the loss of the Kelvin would change that tradition.

I can think of lots of things in the post-Kelvin era that are changed and therefore might threaten Vulcan traditions, for one the fact that it seems to be widely known that Romulans are a Vulcan offshoot whereas, in the Prime Universe, it was a dark secret perhaps known only to a few Vulcans? "Balance of Terror" cannot unfold as it did in the Prime Universe. Nor can "The Enterprise Incident".

Also, this version of Spock seems to embrace different parts of his human and Vulcan heritages. As a half Vulcan perhaps he is denied the right to a Vulcan betrothal at age seven?

Have you considered the possibility that this was the reason T'Pring left him in the first place? She gave him some bullshit about him being "a legend" and not wanting to be married to a celebrity. It would seem grossly illogical for her to just flat out say "I prefer not to get married to some halfbreed clown who walked away from the Vulcan science academy... c'mon, really? The science academy? What are you, an asshole?"

As to the original question... who cares? T'Pring was having an affair with Stonn, and expressed her desire to CONTINUE that affair whether they were married or not. Since jealousy is a fairly potent emotion I should think it is one of the most heavily suppressed emotions in their entire culture; furthermore, polygamy is a perfectly logical solution to certain economic problems, so I doubt there'd be much of a stigma in either case. In the end, it no longer matters, because T'Pring is extremely dead, and Uhura now has until Spock's next Ponn Far to obtain some extremely potent birth control.

Maybe they're still betrothed, maybe she's still alive, and maybe there's your subplot for the next Star Trek movie.

I seriously hope that we don't see ANY Vulcans we've see before. After all 99.999834% of Vulcans are dead. Crushed into subatomic particles in a black hole. They aren't coming back.

The entire Vulcan system should be gone by the next film. Wonder how the gravitational changes will affect its neighbors?

I think one of the big brains around here said that it woudn't really change anything in the Vulcan system. The black hole would have same mass as the planet or something like that.
