I wish this type of thing would stop.
There is a tv show in Australia which trys to find the next model and you get a model contract and other things to go with it.
Well l think it is sad that this sort of thing is going on.
We have teen agers battling with weight and wanting to look like there role model.
This girl was size 8.
I would like to see what you think of this

a 16 year old should not be worried about such things, our current society sucks balls for making them feel that way, a teen wants to try to fit in, and the media and fashion and modeling says you have to be a certain way, in reality, guys don't really like really skinny women, a lot of guys actually prefer women to have a little meat on em!

I have noticed this effects male models too.
You have to look a certain way to fit in.
Yes l agree it is mags tv shows like this which makes a girl or boy think that he or she has to look like this.
I do agree some men do like there woman being abit larger than a supermodel but there is alot of men who prefer stick model figures too.
I have even noticed with girls today they think they have to look a certain way to fit into a group of there freinds and if you dont look a certain way you are tossed out.

i have a question to all the men on this site.
What size would you like your woman to be.
Do you prefer a woman to be very skinny or a bit bigger.

A friend of mine was in a funk a couple weeks ago because she was getting "a bit hippy"

I told her to shut up and took her to lunch.

I think the lesson is, don't try to "fit in", or at least don't try to be something someone else wants you to be, be yourself and be happy with what you look like and make the best out of what you have been given.

My daughter is size 8.
And she thinks she is fat..
I always say to her that she looks nice and she doesnt need to be skinny like her freinds.
You see some of her freinds are very tall and they are very skinny so she thinks she doesnt look as good as them.
Yes It was great you took her out to lunch we have to show teens and adults because it effexct older women as well that you should look at other thing in life than focusing in your weight
If you look nice you dont worry about others sometime they might be jealous because you look better than them

It is all relative anyway, different guys are attracted to different girls, the key is to find someone who likes you for you just the way you are, there is a person for everyone out there, I truly believe it.

Girls are the worse at comparing themselves to each other, young ones, they just don't understand yet.

BTW, I have a 16 year old sister, so I kinda see what goes on, for example she had to get a belly button ring to "fit in" I told her it wasn't necessary and that she looked just fine the way she is, but she doesn't listen to me obviously lol

Thanks for that Dr. Phil

There's actually a good utilitarian reason why fashion models look the way they do. They are essentially meant to be walking hangars and being thin they don't disrupt the flow of the clothing they are wearing too much. Probably the "ideal" of beauty in our culture, rather than fashion models, is the Playboy Playmate, but you'll never see them modeling on the catwalk simply because they are too curvy to show off the clothes the way the designer wants. Being too heavy to model is not a commentary on any standard of beauty in our culture it is just a necessary tool for the job.

I don't buy it

It certainly isn't how girls look at it either

Yes l have a daughter around the same age.
Yes they seem to like to listen to there peers meaning freinds not there parents and there sisters and brothers..
They only come to us when things get that bad that they cant cope.
I do find that it is hitting the girls alot younger now than it used to be.
You hear of girls as young as 8 comparing them selves to others.

Also here is a link to a supermodel who put on weight her name is Tyra Banks.
But then she decided to lose it again to go down to size 8

I just think it is a shame that girls start looking uo to a role model then they start this yo yo deiting
Losing weight gaining weight is a issue too

That is true, but at least Tyra wasn't involved in modeling when she put on the weight as she was heavily involved with her talk show. She actually looked healthy.

But all of this reminds me of Filippa Hamilton, formerly of Ralph Lauren. She was fired for being 5'10" and 120 lbs., borderline anorexic for her height as it is already, "too fat" for the people of RL. So they digitally photoshopped her picture to this:

It should be obvious, but just in case, the doctored photo is on the right while how she looks now is on the left.

I'll be the first to say it, I like skinny women. But then, I think size 8 is skinny.

To be fair though, I can see how this is determintal to girls' self-image.

The same is true for boys as well. Society tells men that they're not "real men" if they don't look like this....

Weight depends on the person. For example, Salma Hayek looks perfect at her weight but if Rachel Bilson matched that weight she wouldn't look nearly as good.

Rage is correct on the reasoning behind it. Personally I think it's stupid reasoning (not against you, Rage, but the industry), and yes, I agree that women certainly do not see it that way.

As for body type, I prefer athletic girls. Broad shoulders, the right waist-to-hip ratio, a nice toned body, but also some roundness in the right places.

But obviously, beauty and attraction can be found anywhere.

I agree with your post in general, but that last line in particular: Beauty and attraction can be found anywhere.
