Chris Columbus directing the new Superman movie?

From Superman Homepage:

As we know, Warner Bros. are aiming to have a new Superman movie released to cinemas before the end of 2012.

A source inside the studio has revealed to the Superman Homepage that an "offer has been sent out to Chris Columbus to direct the 3D Superman reboot for December 2012".

Columbus, who directed the first two "Harry Potter" films for Warner Bros., is reportedly considered "the right fit" for the Man of Steel by those within the WB and Legendary Pictures.

Christopher Nolan will be producing the film, from a script written by David Goyer.

"David Goyer really wanted to direct but nobody from either studio think he's good in that arena," reveals the studio insider. "He's great at coming up with story and ideas, like George Lucas. It's his execution where he's weak which is why people like Chris and Jonathan Nolan and Guillermo Del Toro have had the best results with his scripts."

Whether Chris Columbus takes up the offer, or even if said offer really exists, will be revealed in time.

Columbus would give the movie the right tone, I guess. The last thing a Superman movie should ever be is dark and gritty.

Ugh. Chris Columbus? Rewatching the first two Harry Potters, his direction is so uninspiring and pedestrian it's not even funny.

Agreed. I'm definitely glad Goyer isn't directing, but they could still find someone better than the bland and generic Columbus.

Chris Columbus is as likely as Brett Ratner. Unless they want a completely pedestrian director with no individual style they want to control.

I wouldn't mind if Chris Columbus directed the new "Superman" movie. My pick though has been James McTeague. I think he'd be able to handle all the action sequences and balance them with the character moments nicely. Glad Goyer isn't directing though. He's a good writer but a crappy director.

I'm not really a fan of Chris Columbus. I enjoyed "Home Alone" when I was younger, and "Mrs. Doubtfire" well enough, but I wouldn't have too much faith in his abilities to direct a Superman feature.

I hope not.

Chris Columbus' two Harry Potter movies are quite boring. The best thing about the Harry Potter series was that they were able to move onto new directors like Alfonso Cuarón, who had much more talent.
