Did anyone think of the Borg when the Cybermen said "You Will Be Assimilated?" lol

Yeah I did. It was very amusing.

From what I understand, "You will be assimilated" was the Cybermen's catchphrase decades before the Borg were created.

^ No, it's not a line they've ever used before. It's "resistance is useless" that the Borg ripped off.

While they never used the word assimilated, I do remember them saying "You will be like us" a few times.
Different words, same meaning.

The episode "Q Who?" introduced the Borg and featured a computer readout with the following Starfleet officers:

William Hartnell
Patrick Troughton
Jon Pertwee
Tom Baker
Peter Davison
Colin Baker
Sylvester McCoy

The Cybermen ARE The Borg. It was a conscious homage.

I'm wondering if something he said to Amy in the first episode will come into play at all: "Amy Pond, there's something you'd better understand about me because it's important, and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a mad man with a box."

On a similar note, I was rewatching the ending of 'Flesh and Stone' where Amy is coming on to the Doctor, and found the Doctors comment "Mad, impossible Amy Pond. I don't know why, I've know idea. But quite possibly the single most important thing in the history of the universe is that I get you sorted out right now." . I didn't think much of it at the time. But now it seems like a fat piece of foreshadowing.

Though to be fair, now they don't seem to stomp around in formation like tin idiots and act like they may as well be robots, the design seems to work.
I've never had a problem with the costume design, rather my problems with them were the writing and presentation of the characters: the stomping, yelling "Delete! Delete! Delete!" and their origins being exactly the same as Genesis of the Daleks.

Yeah, the walking around in lock-step to the sound of someone whacking piece of sheet metal was pretty damn annoying. And I really wish they'd get rid of the damn flared cuffs.

Oh, and never, ever use RTD's version of the cyberization process ever again. Having a bunch of robot arms flailing about with lasers, saws, and scalpals is just totally OTT.

Really? How many minutes into the episode?

I am surprised that it isn't mentioned on Memory Alpha.

The names are actually from "The Neutral Zone," seen on the family tree of one of the cryosleep survivors. And given at that point the Borg were neither named nor designed, I can't imagine it was a tip of the hat for the Cyberman concept.

But I think that at that point, Maurice Hurley still conceived of the Borg (then unnamed) as an insectoid hive-mind, which is much more like the Wirrn than the Cybermen!

Whoa...that's pretty cool. I'm going to have to go back and watch the episode now...and yes there does seem like plenty of lines and scenes that have foreshadowed the finale. For whatever reason I still haven't been able to get "No! Not Yet!" out of my head. Most fans might have taken that line to be the Doctor not wanting to die again so soon but I can't help but think it was meaning something else and that something else was the Valeyard. Am I reaching for something that's not there? Very well could be but that line has stuck with me for the entire series.

I think he was just whining about having to save the world with his A-game ten minutes after he regenerated. "Now this is too soon. I'm not ready. I'm not done, yet." Like he said earlier, he was still "cooking."

We are talking about the duck pond, right?

I didn't think it was so bad. Just seemed to be overkill given they only took the brain out. Makes a little more sense (if anything in Doctor Who does make sense) if they use other body parts too.

Well, we learned last week that it wasn't just the brain. At the very least, the skull got some use, too. I wouldn't be surprised if more of the body wasn't incorporated into the robot. It helps "Cyberwoman" make more sense, and that one needs allege help it can get.

Today is the day! I just hope I will pass my driver's test so I can watch it on a happy note!

I stand corrected.

Retroactively voted this one 'Good' after viewing the 2nd part. It was probably a little better than the 2nd part, but still not on par with Vincent and The Doctor which was the best of the season for me (and one of the best Doctor Whos ever).
