I hate it primarily for the horrid garish electronic music and the panto women 'Cryons' - not for the self indulgent navel gazing...
Yeah, the music's hardly City of Death. That aside though, I find a lot to enjoy. And I do like the Cybes.I hate it primarily for the horrid garish electronic music and the panto women 'Cryons' - not for the self indulgent navel gazing...
I just watched "Frontier in Space" and what I like is the "epicness" of the story. If I hadn't seen it before, the Master's appearance would have been shocking. It goes from a possible interstellar war to Doctor/Master conflict back to preventing an interstellar war. We actually get to know about the Draconians and Humans and we get to know their motivations and connect with what they're actually feeling... unlike in some fast-paced stories from 2005 onwards like "The Doctor's Daughter" where I didn't really care about the weird aliens and the humans.
I think the Fifth Doctor era marks a low point for the classic show. Davison might be a decent actor, but his character was bland and uninteresting. You'd think that whiny bitch Tegan was the main character. I certainly don't dislike the Fifth Doctor, but the combination of a bland Doctor, probably my least favourite companion of the old show whining all the time, and a lot of weak stories means I'm not a huge fan. When Bidmead said in that DWM interview about Tennant being "an actor who hasn't got a character to play", I find that criticism far more applicable to the Fifth Doctor. His costume didn't help either; beige costume for a beige Doctor. I'd stress I certainly don't blame Davo for it; he's a good actor. But the Fifth Doctor didn't have enough of a definable character for me.Pah phillistines the lot of ya!
Davison is awesome, AWESOME I tells ya!
Actually a good Doctor let down by some ropey stories at times.
