Me? The more Ezri, the better.

The obvious assumption in that scenario is that the unseen enemy will be scary and cool up until the point they make an appearance, whereupon they will be revealed to be a boring, lame ripoff of something else, most likely the Borg or maybe those guys from the Alien movies, and everyone will yawn and change the channel.
Prove I'm wrong.
The problem with your ripoff mention is that just about all possible variations of bad guys have been done in ALL the sci fi series. Any new bad guy will be a mixture of previously seen ones.
We've already had cybernetic bad guys, other dimensional bad guys, nanite bad guys, replicant bad guys, warrior bad guys, secretative and cunning bad guys, shapeshifting bad guys. The list goes on, chances are you've seen it already.
If you have a bad guy that feeds on humans it's a ripoff of the Wraith.
If you have a bad guy that shapeshifts it's a ripoff of the Founders.
If you have a bad guy that's genetically engineered and grown it's a ripoff of the Jem'Hadar.
If you have a bad guy made from nanites it's a ripoff of the Replicators.
If you have a bad guy that can take over your body it's a ripoff of the Goa'uld.
If you have a bad guy from another dimension it's a ripoff of the sphere builders or the Orii in stargate.
If you have a bad guy that's cybernetic it's a ripoff of the Borg.
Any other possible variation of bad guy has either been done somewhere along the line or becomes completely lame simply because it's not good and the reason it's not good is because you've tried to make it something that hasn't been done before and therefore you've had to simply make do with whatever is left.
legend, I've been seriously thinking about doing a fan film of DS9, with plot ideas very similar to yours. But....I don't know if there is enough interest. TOS and various types of TNG stuff seems to be the most popular.

Hey--if you get at least one of the cast to star in it....![]()
BTW, the enemy could be an ever more powerful Orion Syndicate, with an ever changing face and tactics. But with a small group of entities manipulating things behind the scenes.
It would give a series or a fan film the opportunity to do what Trek does best. Social commentary on current events.

You can copy or borrow aspects of my bad guy idea HERE.![]()
Even mixtures of old ideas can be mixed in a way that they are effective and scary. The Borg themselves were constructed from parts of vampires, robots and zombies all mixed together. And they were effective and scary for a while...The problem with your ripoff mention is that just about all possible variations of bad guys have been done in ALL the sci fi series. For the ten millionth time! One thing we all have to keep in mind the future Spock in Star Trek XI will be careful about altering the time line and make efforts to set events back to there original outcomes
As much as I love DS9, I wouldn't want Series 6 to be a sequel to that fine series. I feel as though the finale put a pretty neat lil' bow on that saga, and I'm content with that. I have had very mixed feelings about the novels, in fact....Captain Ezri? Nope!
If there is a Series 6, I want a new century (25th or 26th), a new ship (for chrissakes, does it have to be called "Enterprise"?), a new crew (no legacy characters, please---I'm not interested in seeing the adventures of Mayweather's great-great-great-great granddaughter), and a new status quo (maybe the Klingons are UFP members, but the Andorians are not---something like that), as long as they're "exploring strange, new worlds", it's all good. Get a veteran actor or actress to play the c.o. and some hot young up-and-comers to round out the crew, get some good writers, and you're off and running............................

You're not thinking like a producer. Any producer worth his salt who is given the reins to the Trek "franchise" is going to capitalize on the success of the new Trek films. They are not going to go backward and restart something from the prime universe that, in their minds, nobody really cares about, has run it's course and is now effectively over. Now, with this new universe, they don't have to worry about being consistent with 40+ years of what came before it. They have a fresh start, and can tell fresh stories that are more than just the "aliens/planets-of-the-week-that-we-visit-once-and-never-see-again-or-care-about-again" stories that was what killed Trek to begin with.

WRONG!!!
Any producer worth his salt is only going to take a Trek tv series to implement his vision. He will have no more loyalty to the Abramsverse than the Bermanverse.
I enjoyed DS9 but find it to be the most consistently over-rated of the Trek shows. Still, what I liked most about it was that it had a clear ending - the big story was over and the characters moved on. No reason at all for a direct sequel, IMO.
If we're going to have a new Trek TV series, I'd much rather see an Abramsverse series anyway. We've had countless hours of programming in the Bermanverse, I'd like to see them explore this new spin on Trek some more.
