I mentioned this in TNZ but it's worth mentioning it here too because it's fun. When MLS was set up there was no such thing as a drawn game. Instead at the end of 90 (not 120 minutes), they had a 35 yard shoot-out.Plus to ensure you always got a result in each and every fotball game would recquire extra time/penalties etc. Games would just go on way too long. In knock out competitions it obviously makes sense but overall it'd ruin football.
One striker, one keeper and 7 seconds to put it in the net. Once the keeper had touched the ball the striker wasn't allowed to touch it again. Bit of an insane system. I can't find any good quality MLS videos of one, but here's an example from an amateur level: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hlkvgZ1LQg
I follow sports where drawing isn't possible - I'm a keen basketball fan - but it entirely suits football and it's also not 'no result'. It has its own significance.
