I didn't think Back to Earth was really the abomination, the tragedy, the sheer assualt to the good taste of the viewer that most of the reactionaries see it as..
Sure, it wasn't the best or funniest Red Dwarf ever, but as someone else pointed out upthread, had it been just a regular story told within a proper full season no one would have batted an eyelid.
And, well, it looks like it has lead to new series of Dwarf being commisioned by the BBC. This is surely a positive thing?
I know I know, not if the writing isn't spectacular or the series doesn't re-capture the brilliance of it's youth - but you know what? That's a romantic view of the show. In reality, RD rarely lived up to this hyped up romanticised view of itself. Sure, it was brilliant and terribly funny at times, but not all the time, not constantly.
So I, for one, welcome this news and can't wait for more from the Boys from the Dwarf..
