Blu-Ray: F*** You

Rii

Rear Admiral
Whose fucking idea was it to put unskippable trailers for other films before the main menu? I've encountered this on two discs now. If you don't want me to buy your product, just say so. I'm quite familiar with bittorrent.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

This is not just a blu-ray issue, I have several DVD's that do the same thing.

I haven't encountered any DVDs featuring trailers before the main menu, unskippable or otherwise. Maybe because for DVD Australia is in South America whereas for Blu-Ray we're in Europe and the practices of the studios are different between the regions, I dunno.

I have seen anti-piracy notices on DVDs, however in such cases any rage I might otherwise feel is overcome by derision at the utter absurdity of it all.

However widespread it is, this practice can fuck right off. I'll be reading up on each Blu-Ray I consider in future and will refrain from purchasing any releases including such trailers.

I'll go further: I've only seen this on DVD. None of my several dozen Blu-rays have unskippable trailers. (Yet, I'm sure. *sigh*)

At least Warner Brothers has a clue: no trailers, no other crap, just put the disc in and it starts the main program.

District 9 and The Road are the two Blu-Ray (Region B) releases I've encountered unskippable trailers on to date. The one attached to The Road went on long enough for me to sigh, leave the room and get a drink, and come back to find it still playing. I have no idea what film it was even advertising, my vision being rather too clouded with red mist at the time.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I've seen it on regular DVDs. It's fucking bullshit. Just proof that movie studios don't give a fuck about consumers, and that the DVD standards bodies care even less.

It should not be part of the fucking standard to have unskippable sections on a DVD/Blu-ray. Fucking assholes.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I've seen it on both Blu-Ray and regular DVDs.

It honestly doesn't bother me. The one that does annoy me is the "Please Don't Try This at Home" warning that you can't skip on any WWE DVD.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

It annoys me to no end, so the first thing that i do when i buy a new dvd or blu ray is rip the movie for later viewing (personal use only).

of course if its one with a lot of extras i want to watch ill suffer through the trailers and rubbish.

This.

Don't recall the movie now, but I bought a Fox movie last year (some stupid disaster film or another, I think) that had 30 minutes of fucking film trailers (unskippable) at load up. 30 minutes. It was as if they had a trailer for every fucking homemovie that some intern in the mail-room made. Then it got into the anti-piracy PSA shit. I got so pissed I took the disc back to the store and traded it in for an Itunes card and came home and downloaded a bunch of Enterprise episodes.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I have plenty of DVDs in my collection with unskippable trailers. I also watch movies via Sky Player which are preceded by unskippable adverts.

The best ones are the unskippable anti-piracy videos.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I guess I'm lucky. Whenever I've run into a DVD with unskippable trailers, the "menu" button still works. And, naturally, half the ones with skippable trailers disable the "menu" button.

I guess I've been counting the "menu" button as a skip method. I've got at least one DVD - Law and Order season 6 - where neither chapter skip nor the menu button work. (Fast forward does, so at least I can get through them at 8x...)

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I don't recall having any that are unskippable. I have about 200 DVDs. The copyright notice is often unskippable but you can ff through it.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I have a regular DVD player and have encountered this. I've noticed that the trailers will be unskippable for the first 15-30 seconds, after which they can then be bypassed.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

Can I assume you guys are trying to skip them by pushing the MENU button on your remote? None of you has said. If that's the case, try pushing the CHAPTER SKIP button instead. That always works for me when I don't want to see the trailers.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I love how the content upsets you, but eventually you start hating the medium. Fuck bluray! ARRRRRGHHAARRRLL!!!

The worst is when you make a DVD copy of a torented movie and you still can't skip the anti-piracy videos.

Re: Blu-Ray: Fuck You

I don't think for purchase discs, DVD or blu-ray, should be *allowed* to have trailers on them. Period. Rentals is one thing; but I hate when I put "Batman Begins" in having to endure 2 seconds of the trailer for the crappy Tim Burton "Willy Wonka" remake. *Cringe*

I've paid for the DVD, I shouldn't have to endure nonsense.

Uh, I said that I've tried both. David cgc also (indirectly) indicated that he has. :)

That's because of all the iron.
