Sins of a Solar Empire - super cheap

I really didn't have any interest in using anything other than Steam for my PC games... but 4 bucks is less than a Jamba Juice, so I pretty much HAVE to buy it. Right?

Impulse is good for the few Stardock games that they put out really, but I think the same way.

It's probably why Stardock and D2D are refusing to sell Steamworks based games in their stores.

I just bought it...

....Then it told me I had to download something called 'Impulse' and probably this GFW nonsense too.

Safe to say I'll probably never play it. PC games = meh.

Ditto. Although you never know when they'll put the expansions on sale as well.

They have this weekend! I'm buying both expansions for £9.84.

Impulse is just another Steam, but actually less restrictive.

Yeah. No DRM. They allow you to keep archives of your games. It's just an installation mechanism, basically. It even stores all your serails so you don't have to hunt for them. I like Impulse... they do business how it should be done.

I almost pulled the trigger on the $15 expansion pack bundle... but I haven't really played the original game much... and meanwhile Steam is having one of their epic sales... I picked up Borderlands and 3 $10 DLC packs for like 20 bucks..., that recent Red Faction game for $5, and a bunch of others... Stardock, sorry, but you can and must do better :(

Yeah, Steam is basically wiping out everyone now for better or for worse.

It's too bad the individual packs aren't on sale - I wouldn't mind picking up Diplomacy, but since I already have Entrenchment the bundle doesn't really work out for me. Hopefully it'll come back up sooner or later (or I just bite the bullet and spend the 10 bucks).

I was disappointed with the expansion packs. I think they unbalanced the game, and I found it less enjoyable. Went back to the original and played it after... much better.

Oh well, win some lose some! I've still only spent £15 ish in total for the whole kaboodle.

I'm surprised you didn't like Entrenchment. I think that the starbases are a wonderful addition to the game.

Starbases are cool. But the power dynamics are off. And I don't knowhow much is Entrenchment and how much is Diplomacy.

I still play 2 vs 2s with more brothers at Sins sometimes, or 3 vs 3 if we can find some friends with time.

And we almost always play without starbases. The Vagyr moving starbase is just too powerful in an assault role.

We typically have pirates turned off too.

I just gave Diplomacy a swing and holy crap are the pirates unbalanced! I was rather disappointed when I took my fleet out only to find the pirates had obliterated the enemy AIs. They're essentially unbeatable after a certain point, even by a fully maxed-out fleet (the only way I was able to stop the pirate raids was with the planet killing device).

Yeah totally... thought I mentioned that, but it seems I haven't. But pirates I turned off with the expansion, they were just driving me mad.
