Haynes Enterprise Manual? ... Part Two...

The non-fiction book TERRAFORMING was an SAE product--so I am thinking that with the web, car manual producers are looking to partner with folks who cannont afford publishing houses of their own sci-fi products. Wasn't Starlog dependant on wrestling mags at one time?

The practice goes way back - the original hardcover edition of Dune was published by Chilton Books.

I'm going to guess that this will be similar to Haynes' Apollo manual book. I have the Apollo book, and although I haven't read it yet, it appears to be a good "survey" book about the Apollo program. Full-color throughout, it's a mix of period photos and drawings, as well as a few new drawings here and there - but nowhere near what one would expect in a typical Haynes car manual (If you're looking for something like that for Apollo, you need to get the Virtual LEM & Virtual Apollo books).

You can download a handful of PDF sample pages from Haynes. The third, fourth, and fifth samples are representative of the entire book, and as you can see, it's more of a text book with lots of pictures, and not a technical manual, per se. So I would not be surprised if the Enterprise book is presented in this way as well.

^ Okay I was excited beforehand and now after seeing those preview art pieces I'm going to ahead and ask my mom to pre-order for me from Amazon since I don't have a credit card myself. I can't wait for this. Thanks for posting that link.

Also from the cover and the art that was provided it does seem like they are going to only cover the TOS Enterprise which is cool but I was hoping to get at least a good page or two on JJ's Enterprise or maybe we still will and they just didn't show it and are leaving it for the book.

I'll add it to my collection of published materiel:
The Making Of Star Trek
Star Fleet Technical Manual
U.S.S. Enterprise Booklet Of General Plans
Mr. Scott's Guide To The U.S.S. Enterprise
Star Trek - The Motion Picture Blueprints

Plus my collection of cool stuff I've gathered off the internet over the years.

Some of those prelim stuff does look pretty nice. I guess I'll make some room on the shelf for it when it comes out :)

Same Here :techman:

I clicked the "email me when it's available" button. My experience with preordering from Amazon is mostly annoyance - once a month they send an email saying "if you still want this item, you must let us know at the following link or we'll just cancel it on your ass."

I'm curious as to how they're gonna gloss over the weird 1701-A stuff: The 1701-D engine room in STVI, the 70-floor elevator shaft in STV, the shuttlebay too small to turn a shuttle around in in STV, the TNG conference lounge windows in STVI, the observation windows in STV, the moving elevator doors (and thus shafts!) in STV/VI...

I bet they're gonna just pretend none of it happened and depict the -A as identical to the refit

^^ The same way the book makers have done since the beginning of Star Trek. Do it their own way. You'll notice that these "tech references" rarely have any resemblance to what was shown on the screen as far as ship internals go. But that won't stop me from buying the book if it's well done ;)
