MLB Talk - 2010 Season

I can't believe that someone would pass judgment on someone, even if they didn't really do anything wrong

Ummm... what?

A-Rod wasn't in the wrong in that situation, yet you feel as if he should of had his ass kicked. That's unreasonable at best.

Well first of all, I just plain dislike A-Rod. That incident could have never happened and I would still dislike A-Rod. He's a classless douchebag. He deserves his ass kicked at any time in any place on general principle.

Second of all, of course he was in the wrong in that situation. You'd have to have a debilitating mental handicap, such as being a Yankee's fan, to think otherwise. Everyone that isn't the pitcher or a teammate, coach, or trainer of the pitcher needs to stay the hell off the pitcher's mound.

Yeah, In Braden's opinion  Anyone who get's that steamed over something minor like that needs counseling

^ Meh, let's just let that drop. Braden has his perfect game - let him have his fun. And A-Rod's obviously not dwelling on the pitcher's mound gaffe, so neither will I.

I'm far more pissed that the Yanks lost today :( but at least they won the series. And they don't have to go back to Fenway till October.

While I don't agree with the severity of Braden's comment's, he is correct. Not crossing the mound is one of the unwritten rules in the sport, like not bunting during a no hitter, or a pitcher not showing up his fielders. It's a rule that A-Rod should know, being in the game as long as he has. If he had simply responded to Braden's comments with a "I forgot about that, and I shouldn't have done it", it would have been over. But instead he decided that Braden, as a fellow MLB player, didn't reserve that amount of respect, so he mocked his comments. What do you think Clemens or Ryan would have done after A-Rod did that? Im pretty sure the next pitch he saw would have been going about 99 MPH right into his back.

If it was any other player, I don't think the comments would have been so popularized. However, A-Rod has a history of forgetting these rules within the game, such as the HA! incident in Toronto a few years ago. So this falls right in line with his attitude.

You would never see Jeter pull something like that would you? I don't think so.

Oh, and thanks for existing AJ Burnett!

Yeah, it's too bad but you can't win them all.

I think the whole unwritten rules of baseball thing is just plain silly.

Yeah, I remember when I was watching the game the announcers were confused about what was going on, as seen here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIgkBx_P6kU

When even the announcers need too look up the "unwritten rules", these rules really don't mean much.

Going by the mayor of Boston, apparently Jason Varitek is the Bo Jackson/Deion Sanders/Brian Jordan of Massachusetts!!!

[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqzY1IjcGhc[/yt]

"Boston has an amazing set of remarkable athletes whose actions in the moment have become ionic [sic] in sports. Havlicek stole the ball. Fisk waved the ball fair. Flutie launched the Hail Mary pass. Varitek split the uprights. Today we honor one of the most brilliant moments: Bobby Orr flying through the air."

That guy is an embarassment. Constantly mumbling speaches, couldn't get through an entire speach without a flub if you held a gun to his head. Plenty of fodder for the radio hosts around here to make fun of, though, there's a soundbyte for every occasion...

Not like he makes up for it by being good at his job, either, so not sure why they keep re-electing the buffoon...

Varitek split the uprights.

How do you mix up Varitek (Red Soz C) and Gostkowski (Patriots K)?

Same way someone would mix up Gostkowski and Vinatieri, I'd imagine, as that's who he was going for. ;)

What was Gostkowski's "ionic" kick that split the uprights? Talking about Vinatieri and the SnowBowl game against Oakland...

Both possible, but if you picked any Pats fan at random, held a gun to their head, and asked them to name the biggest field goal they could think of, guess more people go for the Snowbowl kick than either of the superbowl winners. It's just a bigger moment, IMO. Also, without it, they don't get a chance at that first SB-winning field goal...

Either way, ALL of these things are Vinatieri and not Gostkowski. He came later...

Edit: if you search google for "vinatieri field goal", the writeup under the first link (wikipedia) even mentions that field goal, out of all his achievements. 45 yard field goal, in a blizard, to force overtime, and eventually win on their way to the superbowl. Also, it was the final game played at Foxboro stadium, before it was torn down in favor of Gillette Stadium.

I'm a Pats fan, and I'd have to say the game winner against the Rams in the SB was the biggest. Capped off a huge upset and won the team's first title.

Though the Tuck Rule Game was on my birthday, so it gets points for that.

the kick in the SB doesn't happen without the Tuck Rule kick, though. And the superbowl kick wasn't all that special (other than winning it for us). Not too deep, inside, etc. 45 yards in a blizzard, hit it or go home....

I'm a bit concerned about these Yanks injuries here lately. Granderson, Pettitte, Johnson, even Mo himself...hope they can stay healthy.

And I also hope Vazquez can pull his finger out and start producing. Or else his ass is down to the minors, like yesterday. Just ask Alex Gordon.

I have Vazquez on my fantasy team and there's no way I'm starting him tonight or anytime in the near future.

METS ARE AHEAD!!! WAY TO GO!!! WAY TO FRIGGIN' GO!!!! WHAT AN 8TH INNING!!!!

(man, that Chris Carter is somebody who always looks pissed off even when he's happy. The Mets need somebody like him! As Mets fans know, the name 'Carter' usually means wins. ;) )

That's the risk on a team where the average age is like 57. Been wondering for years when the Yankees' age would come back to bite them, but they've managed to avoid it. At some point, that bill's gonna come due...

He was good in the NL, but this is basically how he performed in the AL last time you guys had him, so not sure why you expected much better. Reason you let him go last time...
