Yeah, I'm afraid so. It's really, truly random. Heck, I run the threads, and it hasn't picked me once yet.

Everyone's a critic. I could have gone with "Sub Rosa"...

Did anyone ever ask themselves why this was more appealing? That was my first question when I heard this. The natural word choice in my head was 'love' for some reason. But, I suppose that's just as odd.

I didn't get it either. But at the time, I didn't really think of it. But now, I think that maybe Janeway was hoping that when Seven's individuality resurfaced and retook control of her that that's what she'd want more than being in the Collective.

I think Counterpoint was a really well written episode and noteworthy among the smart episodes of Trek. It was tactics and often people complain of Voyager being to simple. Which I think describes more DS9.

Counter point was an excellent choice.

I think the "odd" word choice was because who was speaking, and who was listening.

To many of us (except for one episode in season 2) there has been an unspoken connection between Janeway and Chakotay throughout the seven years of Voyager.

I don't think Janeway could have honestly said to Chakotay, "We have one thing the Borg could never offer. Love." when on the ship she has never been able to offer that to him or anyone.

When Kes was leaving the ship forever in "The Gift", Janeway couldn't bring herself to tell her foster daughter that she loves her.

When Janeway was arguing with B'Elanna against recreating the circumstances of her near death experience in the "Barge of the Dead", she was completely logical and Captain-like until B'Elanna played "the Mother card". B'Elanna never mentioned "love" but rather used code phrases "proud of me" and "know me", and they were the keys to turning Janeway's logic against herself.

When Seven was openly discussing her impending death and its effect on her foster Mother/ Mentor in "Imperfection", Janeway could only admit to Seven that the former BORG was "a friend".

Over the years in the Delta Quadrant, Janeway did exactly what she felt she needed to do in season 1's "Caretaker".

"I barely knew him (Harry Kim) . I never seem to have the chance to get to know any of them. I have to, I have to take more time to do that. It's a fine crew and I've got to get them home."

And later, what she predicted she needed to be in season 1's "The Cloud"....

"Personal Log, Stardate 48546.2. Our journey home is several weeks old now, and I have begun to notice in my crew and in myself, a subtle change as the reality of our situation settles in. Here in the Delta Quadrant, we are virtually the entire family of man. We are more than a crew and I must find a way to be more than a captain to these people, but it's not clear to me exactly how to begin. .....At the Academy, we are taught that a captain is expected to maintain a certain distance. Until now, I've always been comfortable with that distance....
.... Maybe this is just the way it works. Maybe the distance is necessary. Maybe more than ever now, they need me to be larger than life."

Janeway the CAPTAIN, couldn't explicitly offer anyone "love"... but over the years she did learn how to offer Friendship/Mentoring/ "Mothering" to those who needed it.

    "Sweet Dreams".

I realize I haven't been around the board in a while, so no one really knows my personality anymore...

But, I'm just teasing. It would take A LOT more than that to hurt my feelings. :techman:
