Living Witness

I have been trying to figure out the "Living Witness" time line. How could all of that happen 700 years ago...and at the end he said he tried to track voyager.
He was on the ship when they made it home at the end of the series. Am I missing something? Was there some crazy time warp thing or what? I have just watched it again and still can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

It has been a while since I watched the episode but if I remember correctly the story is set 700 years in the future and the Doctor in it is a duplicate. Voyager went on without him with their own Doctor.

Ah.. that would make sense. I should watch it again... haha... and see if that is the case... you're probably correct and I keep missing it.

Yeah, the Doctor that was activated in the museum centuries in the future from VOY's timeline was from a back up module that wasn't known before or missed after the episode.

Sure would have come in handy all those times they thought they would be without the Doctor...

Exactly right; that was another facepalm moment.

The EMH in question says something about this backup module being stolen during the attack on Voyager. It's a more or less off handed comment as he's trying to figure out what happened.

Besides the fact that this is my favorite episode of Voy, wouldn't a back up be useless unless it could access a holotransmitter?

I forget the timeline of this episode in the show, isn't it also possible that this backup was created because of all the times the Doc went out?

^

No, because Tom & Harry tried to make a back up and failed miserably at it.

If it was "original" equipment, the threat of losin' the Doctor in 'The Swarm' wasn't a real threat.

If it was made aboard ship, who the hell made it? The back up had up to date information all the way to the theft of its module. If the crew had been able to make the module back up, why didn't they just make another one after loosin' that one, and thus eliminate the threat of loosin' the Doctor?

Remember that the "original" Voyager took 23 years to get home. The "backup" program that was found in the "Living Witness" scenario may have been stolen in season "9." of that original timeline.

Remember that it was all just another simulation in the end, so it's possible that a duplicate EMH was not created at all. Voyager might have just encountered them with the EMH playing some minute role in their interaction. The story about what happened could have changed so radically by then that what we saw in the episode is completely different from what actually occurred.
