Dunno what the Doctor's problem was. I'd have given her a 'seeing to'. Alternate ending to the episode, Amy Pond strips off, and just as there's gonna be a pussy shot, an animated Graham Norton pops up to advertise Over the Rainbow.

Voted Good.

Have to agree with Bones () as the crack did seem rather Duex Ex Machina, or at least like two episodes crammed together (like two halves of the universe?). :)

But it did answer a question I posed over on GB, as to whether the Angels 'turn to stone' ability happened automatically, or just when they were aware you looking at them.

And jeez, my friends going to be really honked off at yet ANOTHER companion falling for the Doctor. Even I have to admit its getting a bit old!
I did enjoy the Doctors reaction though.

If nothing else, the story gave us a LOT to chew on.

As for next week...

I hope the boyfriend stays onboard awhile. I rather like the idea of the Doctor trying to play matchmaker. It's been too long since we've had two companions.

Is she falling for him, or the the "out" he represents for the life she doesn't want? It's less the man, and more the ideal, the freedom, the fairy tale, he represents to her.

It seemed like she was more interested in sex and not really in any kind of romance as Rose and Martha. I liked the scene.

Overall, I'm not sure what to think of the episode. I voted 'good' because it was good but something's always missing for me. I wish I knew what.
We certainly got some interesting bits to think about, like River hinting at possibly killing the Doctor, the time-eating crack, the possibility of a big-ass reset button. That was more interesting than the actual conclusion to the first part, I think, which was a bit lacklustre, basically a copy of Doomsday without the emotional impact. They did build up the tension very well, though, with Amy in the forest and before that in the corridors. Towards the end of the episode, the Angels did fall a bit on the wayside, though. And some minor things about them didn't work out, like keeping killing people or being able to see each other and still move.

The handcuffs remark by River was a bit weird, too. Her 'death' in Forest of the Dead was an emotional moment, so joking about it seems a bit out of place. (She must have referred to something else in-universe, of course, but it was clearly aimed at the audience).

Yeah, Amy throwing herself at the Doctor was completely out of character. She's clearly "out of whack," and getting worse, which explains why the Doctor is so eager to fix her up.

There was nothing romantic about what she wanted during that final scene.

Amy is horny and needs to get laid, if the doctor can't help can you???

:)

I suppose its going to be a running joke with them. Every time they say goodbye she's in cuffs.

Guess I see you guys point. I think by 'fixing her up' means getting her hormones directed back to where they belong. Namely the man shes supposed to be marrying.

I gave it a 4. The forest onboard the space craft was similar to that biodome from "Waters of Mars" and the climax was cribbed from "Doomsday", with the Crack essentially being anti-time from TNG's "All Good Things" (that got rid of those expendable redshirts and Angels like the failed attempts at FTL travel did from Alastair Reynold's Inhibitor trilogy).

That was great.

And River was great as always...

"That's a fairy Tale."

"Aren't we all?"

Amy Pond is hot. It's about time a companion tried to bang the Doctor.

AND... we might get a giant continuity reboot! "Time can be rewritten." Awesome!

Best Part 2 of 2, IMO. EC/DD, I think, gets pipped at the post, but only just. I liked the season finales, but this is just that bit better.

Angels: still pretty scary. Nasty too.

Oct: "Doctor Song, do you trust this man?"
Song: "I absolutely trust him."
Oct: "He's not some kind of madman, then?"
Song: "... I absolutely trust him."

The Jacket: yes, rewatching it shows he was wearing it in the forest, for just that scene. I would like to remind people of a line from "The 11th Hour":
Doctor: "No, wait, hang on, shut up! I saw it! I saw it and I missed it! What did I see? What did I see?!" That's us too, clues are being planted, probably in each ep, and we're not picking them up. The Jacket was a very good catch, because he's in real close up. Either that or a continuity error.

Octavian's death scene was wrenching. Nice to see a man of strong principle. His last line was great. I felt like tearing up as the Doctor did.

For the date fetishists, we finally have one! 25/6/2010!

"You might want to find something to hang onto", is a call back to the teaser of 5.04. Cool, cool, cool.

I did laugh at:
Doc: "I'm 907 years old, do you know what that means?!"
Amy: "It's been a while?"

One tiny niggle: every time I hear "Doctor Song", I also hear "Doctor Soong". I watch way too much SF.

Next week looks good.

Some of the monitors in the Byzantium's control room displayed something that looked an awful lot like an Atraxi eyeball having a look around.

Prisoner Zero and Angel Bob both mocked the Doctor and his TARDIS in almost exactly the same way.

Ok, then I will have to wait about 3-4 hours to watch it here. ;)

Torrents usually available after 3pm EDT, not that I promote such things. ;)

I don't even have the patience to wait that long. I watch it live. It's my new Saturday morning treat.

I thought this weeks ep was much better than last weeks! Even though I thought the cliffhanger from last week was kinda lame, I thought the resolution was clever.

The scenes with Amy and the soldiers were well done. The idea of having to keep you eyes shut, while killer statues are after you, and your only protection keeps leaving one by one and they don't seem to remember their peers ever existing - creepy stuff!

I love that Amy was all hot for the Doctor at the end of the episode, if for no other reason than to rub it in the faces of all the fanboys who were convinced the next companion would never repeat the Rose/Martha thing.

The countdown was the scariest thing in the episode for me. I don't know why such a simple thing affected me that much.

And it seems that the Weeping Angels have now joined the league of Doctor Who classic monsters. We'll see them again.

I did laugh at:
Doc: "I'm 907 years old, do you know what that means?!"
Amy: "It's been a while?"

It was the fact he half-replied in the affirmative "Ye... NO, no no!" that got me.

Though if Liz 10s comments are anything to go by he must've had the Virgin Queen not too long ago... ;)

Beat me to it, I >think< I saw it on two different occasions: when the Doctor reaches the Vault and there's a screen behind him, and then again when he's trying to lead Amy out of the forest and there's a screen behind River. I'd love it if anyone else would like to chime in -- were there really Atraxi cameos in this episode?

Fantastic!

A second part that utterly took a different path to what you'd expect, with a wonderful pay off that was in no way an RTD Deus Ex Machina and was set up well in advance (from about 30 minutes before when they fell up to the ship!

Gotta love Moffat's approach to a season long arc whereby the Doctor actually notices it before we even reach the midway point, and also Moffat's approach to a companion having feelings for the Doctor; none of RTD's pussy footing around simpering twu wuve, Amy wants a shag and she wants one now! (and she has just been through a really rough time, people often do fall back on intimacy at such times?) Anyway loved that scene because it was just so Moffat. Sex mad woman being fended off by slightly uncomfortable man, you could have swapped Karen for Gina Belman and Matt for Richard Coyle.

And I loved the Doctor's reply. "I'm 907!" It's clear he sees her very differently to how she see's him, cue the bit where he came back and kisses her on the forehead, that's a very fatherly thing to do, but as someone said before he probably thinks of her as little Ameila Pond.

I caught the jacket continuity error as well, or thought I had...now I'm thinking something completely different.

Father Octavian's death was wonderfully handled, he was a great character shame we won't see him again. And River killing the best man she ever knew? Way too obvious for that to be the Doctor (and if it is one imagines it must be a much later Doctor from the way she still talks)

Next week's looks very good, my only worry is that it seemed to be a very long trailer, hope they haven't shown us all the good bits!
