season 4

Kathryn-janeway

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
This is probably pointless opening this thread or even starting a thread for this. But iv just ordered season 4 and i am just wondering why it is a 15, were the rest of the seasons are PG ?

Full frontal male nudity. :shifty:

Seriously, it's because of an episode called To the Death, which was the first episode of Star Trek to have material cut for being too violent. I believe the British Board of Film Classification also cut out an extra few seconds of a guy's neck being broken, and that pisses me off because I believe the cut is in all the region 2 DVDs even though the Irish Film Classification Office rated it as PG. I wanted to see the Jemmie have his neck snapped. :(

Disc 5 is also rated as 15, and I believe that's probably because of Hard Time. In that episode you see someone murdered in cold blood, and the person that thinks he committed the murder puts a gun to his throat and contemplates killing himself.

Fun for all the family! :techman:

Wow I have the DVD's and never even realized that. Interesting.

I've never even heard of those numbered ratings before though (other than PG13).

Yeah, I was surprised when I bought the DVD for Season 4 as well. 5, 6 and 7 are 12s, so I guess number 4 was uniquely disturbing!

As an American my first thought was the quasi-lesbian kiss in a certain episode.

The idea that violence was the problem never even occurred to me. :shifty:

BBFC = British Board of Film Classification, so that's in Britain (but by extention, all of Region 2 as it's cheaper to only produce one edition).

I think their current scales are E (Educational, so exempt), U (Universal), PG (Parental Guidance) 12-PG (12, but if your parents take you younger that's OK), 12, 15 and 18. (They replaced earlier U, A, AA and X certificates).

Litmusdragon: British censors are always more worried by violence than sex!

Oddly enough down here in Australia, the OFLC decided to give Season 4 all PG ratings.

However Disc 2 of Season 5 is rated M. Not sure which episode though.

Probably for Let He Who Is Without Sin. The shear horror of that episode would be too much for children to handle without committing some form of violent act.

Ahhh well thank you for taking the time to explain that. I had no idea, and that's interesting. :techman:

Add: I was curious and was going to ask more questions about it, then realized, "hey, I can Google it!". I see there is also a "Restricted 18" rating, for your porn. ;)

Virgin1 have been known to show that scene uncut, and I can never decide whether or not to be really nerdy and record it just to have those few extra unremarkable seconds...;)

The BBFC also took the scissors to a few seconds of a Klingon blood-letting ceremony in Sons and Daughters as well...

Thinking about it, The Quickening is also on the same disc as To the Death, isn't it? That one probably contributing to the 15 rating as well...

congrats for their common sense. i reside in a country where rambo 4 is perfect for all audiences, but there are no tits in the tv (let alone a male organ, or sex), no booze, no drugs, no smoking. all such scenes are either cut or blurred.
