It's basically that Margaret Clark commissioned both books to be written simultaneously, so PAD didn't had a chance to read KRAD's manuscript and vice versa. Of course the two could have talked to each other about the manuscripts themselves, but IMO in the end it should be the editor's job to keep the books consistent, especially if she wants them to be written simultaneously.

This is really true. I sense that many of those who protest that Janeway's death is somehow a deep study of how people deal with death and that bringing her back would in some way cheapen the whole Destiny story line are actually Janeway haters who have wanted to see her dead since they first watched "Caretaker." As for the second part of your post, I've said as much myself. Their protest about closing a thread that is of obvious interest to a great many people is just as annoying as the "militant Janeway" folks. There should be room for everyone here IMHO. :)

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I can tell you that's certainly not true of ME. I'd have had the same reaction if it was Picard, and DID have the same reaction when it was Sisko.

    Absolutely.

AuntKate, you don't make your case when you presume to read the minds of those who disagree with you.

I really want her back. She was my personal favorite and Voyager is not Voyager without her. I don't understand why anyone would want to kill her off I find it disturbing because I really enjoyed reading the books and now I just cant.

Janeway was a great character. If she is a Q maybe they could write a book about that.

I'd prefer her back in Command and in the flesh.

I'm with these guys. I don't really think the character is what matters for this story, it's the way the other characters have reacted. And I really think that part of the reason this has worked so well with Janeway is because she was probably the closest to her crew of any of the Captains. In fact, as revealed in Full Circle, her closeness to them lead to her death. I'm sorry, but I really don't see us getting quite the same kind of reactions from the other characters if Sisko or Picard had died.

Janeway was never my favourite Voyager character, but i never for one instant wanted her dead from day one. as for her death; i'm expecting her to come back (being all cynical) but hope she doesn't. i only bought FC to spite all the MJFs but ended up liking it and so bought Unworthy. i will continue to buy Voyager novels as long as Janeway stays dead. if she comes back, i will quit reading them.

JD: Indeed, the DS9-Relaunch early books almost went out of their way to not have everyone moping about Sisko. Even Kasidy ended up settling in fine without him. I think that was realistic; DS9 was not about the crew being devoted to Sisko or vice versa. They handled fine without him. Voyager was much more about the crew being devoted to Janeway, and Janeway to the crew, and so with her loss it meant everything had to re-establish itself. As written by Beyer, that resulted in a number of remarkably compelling emotional journeys.

Ditto, and I would have had the same reaction if it was the other captains or any other characters.

It was supposed to quote thrawn and the others.

Interesting though. What if they had killed KIRK instead of Spock at the end of TWOK. In my opinion, that would have been the definitive end of TOS.

I am new here but I have never understood why people don't like Janeway. Personally I think she was desperately needed in the series. I also think that most of the people who don't like her happen to be male and aren't crazy about such a strong female character. Just my opinion

You don't understand why some folks don't like Janeway?

Same reason some folks prefer blue and some red.

In other words, different strokes for different folks.

    Or in Trek terms, IDIC.

And I think you're wrong on what motivates people who don't like Janeway. In any case, you know, it's not really cool to tell people why they like something or don't. How much better people would get along if we could just accept that not everyone is going to love what we do and that's okay.

For the record, I'm a C/7er, so yeah, I know what it's like to have something you enjoy trashed.

    I'm a 53 year-old woman, and honestly, I don't hate Janeway.

I just don't mind a good character death story. And this arc was nicely done.

Whoa, not even close to true. Men actually like strong women and we respond to them in manly ways. The problem many people have with Janeway is she was written quite unevenly. Her personality varied from season to season, one episode to the next. Sure we all have mood swings but Janeway changed her persona like she changed her hair style. The writers' fault, of course. No one could get an ongoing lock on her. When she finally died it was like, "Okay, which Janeway died? The den mother, the romance heroine, the ice queen, or the bun of steel?"

Everyone who dislikes Janeway is sexist.

Everyone who dislikes Sisko is racist.

Everyone who dislikes Picard is agist.

Everyone who dislikes Wesley is right.

    Generalizations = awesome.
