Are you a Captain Kirk?

Anji

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Anybody find themselves using the Captain Kirk management style at their workplace?

Right now I'm a manager at a company that is becoming increasingly employee unfriendly and I find myself getting into arguements with my boss. I always seem to be using the term, "I'm concerned for the good of my crew."

Anybody else discover the good captain has rubbed off on them???

I managed movie theatres for 20 plus years and the best coach ever was Captain Kirk. If you show trust and respect to your crew you can get them to do almost anything. Alot of managers these days just see them as a payroll expense.

I've stood for my principles even when the most prudent thing might be to shut up and go along with it. I've also stood up for fellows who seemed a little too intimidated to stand up for themselves. And when I see bullshit I usually don't hesitate to say so.

Yes I am, because according to Nena everyone's a superhero, everyone's a Captain Kirk.
I have orders to identify, to clarify and classify.

I deal in small furry animals without giving adequete warning of their hazardous potential for asexual reproduction.

I am having the same experience at my job, where it seems like the changes are good for the "company" but not good for the people who actually make up 80 percent of it. And yeah, as a manager, I find myself going to old James T. for dealing with my people and the "admiralty" of the company. Kirk is definitely a good model to follow leading people in the corporate world.

Not I, but my husband fills the bill. Both he and Kirk are dynamic individuals; and when I first met my husband, I was attracted to him because he reminded me of Kirk that way -- and I like Kirk. I did tell him so early on. One of his bosses in the past described my husband as a "force vector of a very large magnitude." Sounds like Kirk to me.

The Good Captain has indeed rubbed off on me. Since I started watching TOS, I have become more dynamic. I often take the initiative and am no longer content to go along with the crowd just because. I owe Kirk a lot, its a shame they dropped a bridge on him.

Doesn't everyone want to see themselves as a Captain Kirk when really many of us are Reg Barclays.
Not me though! I'm more of a Pakled!

It's difficult for me to identify with any of the characters, but my husband is definitely a Spock.

As much as I love Spock as a character, it can be frustrating to deal with in real life. I can yell, stomp my feet, gnash my teeth in rage at the man, and he calmly folds his arms and asks why I can't discuss the matter rationally.

Because you have made me furious, you green-blooded... :D

I understand. My husband isn't like that but my boss is. He doesn't have one bloody emotion. I think if he'd ever change his hair cut and show those ears I swear they'd have points on them. :techman:
